We have officially passed last year’s numbers for stable housing exits from our emergency shelter.

Since the start of the year, we’ve had 130 stable housing exits, compared to 112 for all of 2025.

To get an inside glimpse of the stories behind our guest's lives and what it is like to rebuild at Anchor House, consider signing up to sponsor a shelter guest. That can be done online at anchorhouseshelter.org/shelter?blm_aid=24229 -a-guest.

In this from 1999, Ed Skaggs and Tim Hardin were among local people who helped with renovations at Anchor House to create a children's learning center.

Jennifer Duffy took over as director in March that year when the shelter reopened with new leadership and staff after closing in 1998. Numerous community volunteers cleaned out the building and redecorated.

The children's learning center included a Reading Tree, a raised area where children could curl up with a good book, and other learning resources. Duffy helped Anchor House land a Community Foundation of Jackson County grant valued at $7,600 for the children's learning center. An adult learning center also was created to include resource materials and computers.

Kenzie Sellers has a heart for pets and their owners that is truly special.

It always broke Kenzie’s heart to see neighbors forced to walk their dogs with string or rope simply because they couldn't afford a proper leash. She was constantly moved by how dedicated pet owners are—often spending their last few dollars to make sure their furry family members are cared for, even before themselves.

So Kenzie decided to take action!

Thanks to her incredible initiative, Anchor House now officially offers pet supplies for the very first time! Kenzie has stocked an entire pantry shelf full of pet food, toys, leashes and treats for our guests. On top of that, she raised $300 to purchase additional supplies and created an Amazon Wishlist so the community can help keep this new program going.

Want to help Kenzie keep these shelves full for our pantry guests and their pets? Check out her Amazon Wishlist to donate directly:

Thank you, Kenzie, for bringing this wonderful new resource to Anchor House and showing so much love to our community’s pets!
