Wine drop party: success!

Thank you to all who attended Saturday’s Wine Drop party. It was a lovely evening with delicious food, music by No Country for Old Men, with gorgeous flowers donated by Santana Farms .

By the end of the night, we were able to collect almost 100 bottles of wine donations to be used at future event auctions!

Thank you to hosts Kevin and Kathy Karpe, Mike and Claire Barnett, and Carol Ulak. And thank you to Alyse Arauze Photography for these beautiful photos of the event.

Do you or someone you know want to host your own Wine Drop Party? We can help! You provide the venue and the food, and we’ll do the rest! Our team will make sure that donated wine is collected and recorded at your party, and that every donor will be thanked. We will also send out invitations and manage RSVPs.

Your efforts will help Casa de Amparo build exclusive and rare wine cellars auctioned off at select events. This allows us to raise money that goes directly back into Casa de Amparo’s programs and services.

If you are interested in hosting a Wine Drop Party, please send us a DM or email [email protected].

Thank you to all who attended and donated wine! We can’t wait to auction some of the bottles at our upcoming golf and pickleball tournament!

Meet our Volunteer of the Year: Pam

Every year, the North County Philanthropy Council (NCPC) invites local nonprofit organizations to nominate a Volunteer of the Year. This year, we nominated our wonderful volunteer Pam and had the pleasure of celebrating her at the Volunteer Award Ceremony on April 11th.

As a dedicated member of our Ladies Auxiliary, Pam leads our event silent auctions with creativity and care. She also connects our youth to meaningful experiences through her work at the Flower Fields, always finding ways to give back.

Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to Casa de Amparo, Pam! We appreciate you very much.

What a fun Friday surprise: Casa staff Care Kits!
In recognition of our work supporting children, youth, and families, and in consideration of the impact secondary trauma can have on frontline staff, the In-N-Out Burger Foundation donated Care Kits for the Casa de Amparo team this week.

The kits include stress-relief and self-care items like tea, lavender sachets, acupressure rings, shower tablets, essential oil rollers, and other calming wellness items.

What a thoughtful way to commemorate Mental Health Awareness Month for the caring, hardworking staff of Casa de Amparo.

Thank you to the In-N-Out Burger Foundation for these kits, in addition to their generosity as a grant partner.

It’s meaningful support like this that helps keep our team and organization running smoothly so we can continue providing the quality care that children, youth, and families deserve.

Each bag is filled with self-care items and a kind note wishing them a special day.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers in our community!

Battle of the Chefs was so fun!

Seeing these talented chefs working in real time was a really exciting experience.

Here’s how it worked:
-Each chef received one large spot tail fish, and one slab of wagyu beef.
-Everyone had an assortment of fresh ingredients to utilize.
-Start times for all 3 chefs were staggered by 10 minutes
-Each chef had just 30 minutes to prepare, cook, and present their dishes to the judges.
-Judges selected a winner based on taste, creativity, and presentation.

🏆Congratulations to Chef Ethan Yang of Glass Box San Diego, the inaugural “Casa de Amparo Battle Chef Champion”

Thank you to:
-This year’s chefs for sharing their time and talents with everyone at our Meet the Chefs event.
Greg Frey Jr. - Golden Door Country Store
Ethan Yang – Glass Box San Diego
Jeremy Belshaw - VAGA Restaurant & Bar

-PureFish and Specialty Produce for donating ingredients.

-This year’s judges, including Jeffrey Straus of Pamplemousse Grille and Darryl Gordon.

We have a good feeling this will become an annual tradition at Meet the Chefs . . .

Who likes live cooking competitions? 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️
These types of shows and events are so popular, we decided to incorporate one into our Meet The Chefs schedule this Sunday.

So what is “Battle of the Chefs” and how does it work?

👨‍🍳 Three of San Diego’s most talented chefs will go head-to-head in a friendly but fierce competition. The chefs will craft inspired dishes in real time as guests watch the action unfold. With passion, precision, and a dash of drama, each chef will race time to compete for the inaugural title of Casa de Amparo’s “Battle Chef Champion”

We can’t wait to see (and taste!) what this year’s chefs whip up!

Rain or shine, we look forward to gathering together to watch this fun and fierce competition and support the Casa de Amparo mission.

🍽️ Thank you to this year’s chefs for taking the stage and sharing your culinary skills with us all.

We’re excited to announce the launch of Casa de Amparo’s Transitional Living Program: a new, safe place where young adults ages 18–21 experiencing homelessness can heal, grow, and build a path toward independence.

Join us for our Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, and help us celebrate this important milestone for our community. Guests are invited for tours of the program, enjoy coffee and pastries, and learn how this program provides housing, life skills, wellness support, and hope for the future.

You can help us start this program off strong by bringing a food pantry or outreach item donation to directly support our new residents.

We look forward to celebrating with you as we open doors to stability and opportunity.
