Did you know the first Black woman to earn a medical degree in the U.S. was born right here in Delaware? 🩺✨

This Black History Month, we’re honoring Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler (1831–1895). Born in Delaware, Dr. Crumpler dedicated her life to caring for formerly enslaved people and low-income families through the Freedmen's Bureau. Her 1883 "Book of Medical Discourses" was one of the first medical publications by a Black author in America.

At PPDE, we stand on the shoulders of pioneers like Dr. Crumpler as we continue the work of providing equitable, compassionate care for all Delawareans.
