Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society Since 1935, the Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society (MACS) has worked towards a "be kind to animals world." Business hours are Tuesday-Saturday 8am-4pm.

To report animal cruelty or neglect, please call the shelter at 313-891-7188. Since 1935, Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society (MACS) has been providing refuge to stray, injured, and forgotten animals. We work to promote humane education and provide outreach services and resources to animals in need. In 2016, MACS investigated 895 cruelty complaints. MACS provides extensive sheltering, veterinary care and pet adoption services to the thousands of animals that pass through our shelter doors. We never turn away an animal in need. For many animals, MACS is their only hope.

Meet Ava!

At 10 years old, she isn’t asking for much — just someone to give her the forever home she deserves.
Ava is currently waiting at Petco Eastpointe, along with some of her adoptable friends. She’s hoping someone will stop by, look into those gorgeous eyes, and decide that 10 years old is the perfect age to start a brand-new chapter. 🐾

Come visit Ava and some of the other MACS adoptable cats at Petco Eastpointe and help us turn another “waiting” into a HOME.

If you’ve been searching for a smaller companion, we have three little dogs hoping their forever families are out there.

🐶 Jazz — a 3-year-old Pomeranian mix ready to find a home of his own.

🐶 Copper — a 2-year-old, 13-pound mixed breed cutie with lots of love packed into a little body.

🐶 Pierre — our special 6-year-old little guy who has come such a long way since arriving in our care. Pierre is currently enjoying life in a loving foster home while he waits for his forever family. He is blind and diabetic and will need a family committed to continuing his medical care, but he has proven just how much love and fight can fit into one small dog.

Three little dogs. Three very different stories. One big wish — a forever home. ❤️

Jazz and Copper can be met at the shelter this week, Tuesday–Saturday from 11 AM–2:30 PM. Since Pierre is in foster, please apply online if you’re interested in meeting him.

When Pierre came into our care, he was severely underweight, nearly hairless, struggling with skin and eye issues, blind, and diabetic.

But Pierre didn’t give up.

Pierre’s first photo tells you where he started. The rest show just how far he’s come. Today, he’s safe in a loving foster home. His hair is slowly growing back, he’s learning what it feels like to be comfortable and cared for, and underneath everything he has endured is the sweetest little guy who deserves to know that this good life isn’t temporary.

Pierre is potty trained, enjoys the company of calm, respectful dogs, and will need a special person willing to continue the medical care that keeps him feeling his best. He receives insulin every 12 hours along with ongoing care for his diabetes and eyes.

Pierre may need a little more care than some dogs, but we know there is someone out there who will see that he is worth every bit of it. Someone who will look past the medications, the blindness and the bald spots and simply see Pierre — a dog who has already lost enough and deserves to spend the rest of his life being loved beyond measure.

His foster home has been his safe place. Now we desperately want his next move to be his forever home. ❤️

Please help us find the person who is meant to love Pierre. Even if you can’t adopt him, sharing his story could be what finally reaches them.

This week, 12 animals left our care and headed HOME — 11 cats and kittens and 1 very special dog! ❤️

Congratulations to Laa Laa, Lady Marmalade, Yuzu, Tequila, Annie Oakley, Sergio, Karl, Percy, Orange Julius, Pony, Lilly, and Calamity Jane!

Not every adoption is pictured, but every single one is worth celebrating. Each adoption means an animal gets the loving home they’ve been waiting for—and it also means space opens up for another animal who needs us. When you adopt, you’re helping save TWO lives: the one you take home and the one we can now make room for. 🐾

Thank you to every adopter who chose adoption, and to our fosters, volunteers, staff, supporters, and everyone who shares our animals and helps them get noticed.

12 adoptions. 12 new beginnings. And room to save even more. 🥹 Here’s to another week of happy tails!

Crash is making the most of his day! 🐾

This 1-year-old mixed breed boy recently got to spend some time at K9 Turbo Training, where there were SO many new sights, smells, places to explore, and things to do! Crash loved taking it all in and showing off his curious, fun-loving personality.

Crash is a neutered young guy with his whole life ahead of him—and what he really can’t wait for is a home and family of his very own. ❤️

Come meet Crash at the shelter next week!

Professional napper. Certified cozy girl. 💤

At 13 years young, Geisha (aka GG) knows exactly what she wants in life: a comfy spot, a soft blanket, a good snooze…and a forever family to call her own. ❤️

As you can see, GG has been taking full advantage of all the cozy spots in her loving foster home. When she isn’t perfecting her napping skills, she’s starting to show more of her playful side, too! She has also been wonderful with the child in her foster home and continues to settle in beautifully.

Now we just need to find this sweet senior girl the place where she can take ALL of her future naps—her forever home.

Have an open spot on your couch? Geisha would like to apply for it.

We couldn’t let the day end without celebrating one of our amazing Clinic team members — Asia! 🥳🎂

If you know Asia, you know she always has a smile on her face, is always willing to step in and help wherever she’s needed, and is the definition of a team player.

Every day, Asia works hard in our clinic caring for our shelter animals and helping keep them healthy, while also helping provide care for pets in our community so they can stay happy and healthy at home. Her compassion and dedication have made a difference in the lives of so many animals. 🐾

We are incredibly thankful for everything Asia does and so lucky to have her as part of the MACS family♥️

Help us celebrate her by wishing Asia a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY in the comments! 🎉

Some cats just have a way of stealing everyone’s heart—and Bruce has always been one of them. ❤️

At 8 years old, Bruce spent far too long at the shelter. Despite it all, he remained one of our biggest staff favorites because of just how incredibly friendly, affectionate and easygoing he is.

Now Bruce is enjoying life in a loving foster home, and we’re learning even more reasons to adore him. He LOVES drinking from the faucet, being brushed and petted—and he’ll even give you a little paw if you stop before he’s ready. He finds the coziest spots for naps, watches the world through the windows and loves curling up in bed for nighttime cuddles.

Bruce is simply a happy, gentle boy who was made for home life.

He is on a prescription diet, but otherwise his wishlist is pretty simple: a comfy bed, a good window, lots of affection and someone to call his forever person.

After spending so much time waiting at the shelter and finally getting to experience the comfort of a foster home, we don’t want Bruce to ever have to go back to a cage.

Please help us find this special boy the forever home he has waited so patiently for. ❤️

Apply and read more about him at macsshelter.org/adoptions.

Can’t adopt? Please share Bruce. His forever person might be one share away.
