Sometimes all it takes is one decision to change the direction of your life.

This young man knows what it’s like to face the consequences of running with the wrong crowd. Bad decisions led to real hardships, but he refused to let his past become his future.

Instead of making excuses, he made an investment in himself. He committed to learning, growing, and surrounding himself with people who challenged him to become better. He chose accountability over comfort, discipline over excuses, and purpose over the life he was leaving behind.

Today, he’s thriving. He’s proving that your past doesn’t have to define your future, it can become the very foundation that builds it.

His story is a reminder that transformation is possible when you’re willing to do the work. Second chances aren’t given because someone is perfect; they’re earned through perseverance, commitment, and the courage to change.

We’re incredibly proud of the man he has become and excited to see what comes next.

Keep going. Someone else is watching your journey and finding hope because you chose not to quit.

Every success story reminds us why this work matters.

This is one of the incredible men who participated in our Pre Release Employability Program while incarcerated. He made the decision to invest in himself before his release, preparing for the opportunities that awaited him on the outside.

Immediately after returning home, he secured stable housing and accepted employment earning an outstanding wage. Today, he is building a new future with dignity, purpose, and hope. Mind you he has been home less than a month as of today.

This is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

Far too often, people focus on the barriers individuals face after incarceration. We choose to focus on building pathways that lead to lasting success through employability training, industry recognized certifications, workforce partnerships, housing support, and continued mentorship.

The success stories coming from our prerelease program have been nothing short of remarkable. Time and time again, we are watching men leave prison with a plan, connect with employers who believe in second chances, and begin rebuilding their lives from day one.

To every employer, community partner, correctional institution, volunteer, and sponsor who has chosen to believe in this mission, thank you. Your investment is changing lives, strengthening families, and creating safer, stronger communities.

A second chance is more than a fresh start. It is an opportunity to rewrite the future.

Together, we are proving that community changes lives.

What started as a simple idea became something so much bigger.

A group of incredible business owners came together to support Rehabilitation of the Heart and the men and women we serve by making sure transportation is one less barrier to rebuilding their lives. Every bike donated represents opportunity. It means a way to get to work, attend training, make probation appointments, and continue building a future filled with hope.

We are incredibly grateful to these community leaders who chose to invest in second chances:

• Richard Ficca – Florida Coastal Insurance
• Logan Catt – American Painters
• Karen Maller – Johnson Pope Firm
• Angie Clark – Wikle Real Estate
• Matt Shapiro – Skillman Insurance
• Pastor Michael Carter – Victor Newman Ministries
• Chris McDonald – Commercial Fleet Sales & Finance
• Joseph Chic – Chic Home Services
• David Boyum – Capstone Title
• Gary Guarino – Senior Lending
• Al Cruz – Apex Auto Repair
• Liz Miniter – Change Starts Here

Your generosity reminds us that successful reentry is not accomplished by one organization. It happens when businesses, nonprofits, faith leaders, and community members lock arms to create opportunities for people determined to change their lives.

To every person who donated, volunteered, encouraged, or believed in our mission, thank you for helping move our participants forward, one bike and one life at a time.

This is what rehabilitation looks like.
This is what community looks like.
This is what hope in action looks like.

From preparation to release, and now giving back.

This gentleman completed our prerelease program behind the walls at Sumter Correctional and was released directly into the support of Rehabilitation of the Heart and HER. He has now taken the time to share his experience and encourage those who are still preparing for their own transition home.

His message is a powerful reminder that success after incarceration begins with preparation, accountability, support, and the determination to make different choices. We are proud of the progress he continues to make and even more proud that he is already using his journey to inspire those coming behind him.

This is what second chances look like. This is why prerelease programming matters.

ROTH Success Story:

One of the greatest rewards of this work is seeing participants put into action the skills and preparation they gained before release.

Nicholas began our Cohort 1 Pre Release Program at Sumter Correctional Institution and was released during the first week of June 2026. Upon release, he transitioned to an Oxford House in Orlando and immediately began applying the employability and reentry skills he developed through the program.

Within his first week of freedom, Nicholas secured employment as an Electrician Journeyman with an electric company on a project at Disney. His official start date was June 8, 2026.

Shortly after securing employment, Nicholas reached out and shared that while he had secured employment, he was facing two common barriers many returning citizens encounter: access to tools and reliable transportation. Since his housing program was unable to provide those resources, Rehabilitation of the Heart and HER stepped in to help bridge the gap.

Through our support, Nicholas received the tools needed for his new position, along with a brand new bicycle, helmet, lights, and lock to ensure he had dependable transportation to and from work.

Perhaps the most rewarding part was receiving a video from Nicholas expressing his gratitude and sharing how much the support meant to him during such a critical transition period. His story is a powerful reminder that employment opportunities alone are not always enough. Sometimes a small investment in transportation, tools, and encouragement can make the difference between success and setback.

Nicholas is only at the beginning of his journey, and we look forward to following his progress over the coming weeks and months as he continues building a stable and successful future.

At Rehabilitation of the Heart, our work does not end at release. We remain committed to walking alongside individuals as they overcome barriers, secure employment, and create lasting change in their lives.

Huge THANK YOU to Michelle Horne-Walker for delivering everything to Nicholas! It takes a team and dedication and she is the true definition of a partner!

Client Success Story: Marcus

In 2024, I was working at a drug treatment center helping individuals enroll into our programs. There was one man there, deeply involved in street life, who wanted absolutely nothing to do with us or anything we had to offer. He was guarded, angry, and not trying to hear any of it.

But somewhere during his recovery journey, something shifted.

After completing treatment, he asked if he could move into one of our transitional homes. That decision changed the course of his life.

He came into the program, became our housing manager, completed two trade programs through RTI in welding and construction, and secured stable employment. He was rebuilding everything from the ground up.

Then life tested him in a way that could have destroyed all of it.

Last year, he received a call that his daughter had been severely abused by her mother. In that moment, nothing else mattered to him except saving his child. He was ready to walk away from everything he had worked so hard to build.

Instead of allowing him to lose everything, we came together and created a plan. He obtained his own apartment and successfully gained custody of his daughter.

When she arrived in Tampa, she was carrying the weight of severe trauma and instability. She was behind academically and emotionally because of everything she had endured.

We were able to help get her enrolled into a specialized school where she could receive the support she needed to heal and catch up.

Last week, she graduated.

Marcus wanted his story shared because he wants people to know that change is possible. He wants others battling addiction, incarceration, gang involvement, trauma, and hopelessness to understand that their current situation does not have to define the rest of their life.

He wants fathers to know they can rebuild.
He wants families to know restoration is possible.
He wants people who feel written off by society to know they still have purpose.

This is why we do this work.

It is bigger than employment.
Bigger than housing.
Bigger than a program.

It is about restoring families, breaking cycles, and creating futures that once felt impossible.

One thing about RoTH… we have countless success stories the world may never fully hear.

Not because they do not exist, but because the people we serve deserve the opportunity to heal beyond the labels attached to their past. Many of the individuals we work with have survived unimaginable trauma, addiction, incarceration, homelessness, abuse, loss, and pain. Some have also caused pain during the darkest seasons of their lives.

Recovery is complicated.
Rehabilitation is personal.

While society often wants a “before and after” story, we believe healing deserves dignity too. Our goal has never been to publicly expose people for inspiration content. Our goal is to remove labels, restore humanity, and help people rebuild their lives with accountability, stability, purpose, and hope.

So yes, there are countless stories we could share.
Parents reunited with their children.
Individuals overcoming addiction.
People finding employment after years of incarceration.
Families being restored.
Cycles being broken.

Some stories remain private because healing deserves privacy too.

But stories like Marcus’ are shared because someone decided their testimony could help another person keep going.
