“I was hungry and you gave me something to eat… I needed clothes and you clothed me.” — Matthew 25:35–36
Last month, while I was in Rwanda, I sat with some of our children at Umuryango. We talked, laughed, and prayed together.
At one point, I asked them, “What are you praying for?”
One child answered with simple honesty: “I am praying for my own nice clothes, because the ones I am wearing, I borrowed from my friend.”
That prayer stayed with me.
It was not polished. It was not complicated. It was simply a child asking God for dignity—something clean, something nice, something that could feel like her own.
And God heard.
Somewhere in Florida, at CrossRoads Church Daytona/Port Orange, during Vacation Bible School, God was quietly raising a small army of children. The kids raised nearly $400 to help the children at Umuryango.
That money was used to buy new “used” clothes for our children in Rwanda.
You should have seen their faces.
The joy of choosing their own clothes. The smiles. The careful searching. The excitement of finding something that felt special. And then the amazement when they learned that these clothes had been made possible by other children—kids far away who cared enough to give.
No, we may not change the whole world for everyone. But we can change someone’s tiny world. And when a child in Florida helps clothe a child in Rwanda, that child learns something powerful: we live in a big, connected, God-loved world.
This is the Kingdom.
Sometimes the Kingdom looks like children collecting coins at VBS. Sometimes it looks like a sponsor quietly giving month after month. Sometimes it looks like a used shirt becoming a brand-new answer to prayer.
And maybe that is what our “yes” to God really does. It trains our eyes to see the child others may overlook. It softens our hearts to feel the prayer hidden behind a smile. It opens our ears to hear the quiet voices asking for what we already have the power to give.
This is what I call leaving our spiritual fingerprints on someone.
Some people bless children they may never meet. Some kindness crosses oceans quietly. Some prayers are answered through hands we did not expect. And sometimes, our small yes becomes the miracle someone else was praying for.
To the children, parents, and leaders at Crossroads: thank you. You helped our children feel seen, loved, and remembered.
And to all our partners and friends who continue to love, support, and pour into these children—thank you. Your giving tells them something they desperately need to know:
You are loved.
You matter.
You are cared for.
You have not been forgotten.
Somewhere, a child is praying a simple prayer.
Thank you for allowing to answer it through you.
