What does it take to move a scientific discovery from the laboratory to people?

Join us October 7 at 1:30 PM PT for From Discovery to Impact: The Lenacapavir Journey, a special HANC webinar exploring the science, clinical research, and community engagement behind lenacapavir.

📅 October 7, 2026
🕐 1:30–2:30 PM PT
💻 HANC Webinar

Lenacapavir’s story begins with decades of NIH-funded basic research into HIV’s cone-shaped capsid protein and continues through clinical development, prevention research, and community advocacy.

We’ll hear from three leaders who bring different perspectives to this journey:
🔬 Dr. Wesley Sundquist, Chair of Biochemistry at the University of Utah, will share the foundational research that helped transform our understanding of HIV’s capsid and laid the groundwork for capsid-targeting approaches.

🧪 Dr. Moupali Das, Vice President of Clinical Development, HIV Prevention & Pediatrics at Gilead Sciences, will discuss the clinical development of lenacapavir, including the injectable formulation and the PURPOSE clinical trial program evaluating lenacapavir for HIV prevention.

🤝 Ms. Yvette Raphael, Co-founder and Executive Director of Advocacy for Prevention of HIV in Africa, will share her perspective on the essential role of community engagement and advocacy in HIV prevention research—and why the voices of people most affected by HIV must remain at the center of research and implementation.

Together, we’ll explore how basic science + clinical research + community partnership can come together to move discoveries from the laboratory into the real world.

🌈Today, on National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, we remember the lives lost to HIV/AIDS, honor the generations who fought for visibility and care, and stand with everyone living with HIV today. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Gay, bis*xual, and other men who have s*x with men continue to experience a disproportionate impact of HIV, not because of who they are, but because stigma, inequities, and barriers to prevention and care continue to shape who has access to the resources they need.

We can change that. 💪

Let’s challenge stigma. Expand access to testing, prevention, treatment, and PrEP. Support people living with HIV. Have the conversations that save lives. 🌟

Why should WE care about HIV?

It wouldn’t be without a Hope Giselle moment. Hope always speaks truth. Listen and uplift the communities most impacted by HIV. It’s been 45 years since HIV first emerged, and WE still have work to do.

S*x never gets old🔥

This , we’re talking about something that doesn’t have an expiration date: s*x, intimacy, pleasure, and s*xual health.

Getting older doesn’t mean your s*x life stops and neither should the conversations about HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and s*xual health.

Let’s break the stigma, challenge ageism, and keep the conversation going. Because yes… s*x never gets old. 😉

Featuring Dr. Kenric Ware from Mercer University, College of Pharmacy!
