Suddenly, you’re thinking about your team, performance, culture, business results, and the bigger picture all at once.

Sound familiar?

On October 7, join NAMM YP and Daniel Jobe for The Modern Music Retail Manager: Building Leaders Beyond the Numbers.

This session is for current managers and anyone preparing for their next leadership opportunity. We’ll get into the people skills, business thinking, and ownership mindset that can help you grow into the kind of leader your team needs.

You do not have to figure out your next career step alone.
For past NAMM YP mentees, mentorship has meant more confidence, new perspectives, practical tools, and a trusted connection with someone who understands the industry.

If you are early in your career, navigating a transition, or simply trying to figure out what comes next, the NAMM YP Mentorship Program gives you a space to ask questions, talk through challenges, and learn from someone who has been there.

Swipe through to hear directly from past mentees about what the experience meant to them.

Applications are open to become a NAMM YP mentee (or mentor!)

What makes someone stand out early in their career? (Part 3)

Jamie Deering (Deering Banjos), Jonathon Breen (The Music Shoppe Inc.), Jake Connolly (Connolly Music), Tom Tedesco (The Music People), and John Stephans (Zildjian Company) share their perspective on what can set you apart.

This is where it all comes together: ownership.

Do the right thing.
Step up.
Anticipate needs.
Follow through.

The people who stand out don’t wait to be told - they put themselves in a position to help.

That’s what builds trust. And that’s what drives growth.

Retaining great employees starts with investing in their growth.

Jonathan Hendrix of Spicer's Music, LLC, Jess Ferrari of Menchey Music Service, Inc., and Amanda Rueter of Ernie Williamson Music talk about why continuing education can be one of the strongest retention tools a team has. Amanda shares how that investment matters especially within her repair team, where ongoing learning helps employees build skills, stay engaged, and grow over time. That kind of people-first development is exactly the kind of education NAMM YP wants to keep spotlighting. Share this with someone who is building a stronger team.

NAMM YP Book Club readers are getting into the real stuff.
This week’s responses from Radical Candor had a clear theme: hard conversations do not usually get easier just because we wait.
Sometimes avoiding tension in the moment can create more confusion, more resentment, or less clarity for the people involved.
The goal is not to be harsh.
The goal is to care enough to be clear.
What kind of workplace conversation gets harder the longer it waits?

Your perspective could be the one someone else needs to hear. ✍️

We want YOU to be part of the conversation through Pulse and Music Inc.

One of the best parts of being a young professional is learning from the people around you, and sharing what you’ve learned along the way.

Whether you’re a seasoned writer or have never submitted an article before, you don’t have to be an expert to have something worth saying. Sometimes the most valuable insights come from simply being in the middle of the journey.

The results are in, and the top response was clear: YP Book Club readers are thinking a lot about clearer feedback.

That makes sense.

A lot of workplace conversations get harder when people are left to guess what is expected, what needs to change, or what “good” actually looks like.

This week’s responses reminded us that Radical Candor is not about choosing between being kind and being direct.

It is about learning how to do both.

Care personally.
Challenge directly.
Make the conversation useful.

What is one workplace conversation that would be easier with more clarity?
