Old Farm residents Ed and Spencer have spent the season transforming Rockport's community gardens by replacing raised beds, planting flowers, maintaining the landscape, and creating beautiful outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy. But their work is about so much more than gardening.

Every shovel of dirt turned, every flower planted, and every project completed represents progress. Gardening provides opportunities to improve strength, balance, problem-solving, and overall well-being while fostering something equally important: a renewed sense of purpose.

"I like digging," Spencer says with a smile. "I like seeing the results when the work is done."

Their dedication is helping Old Farm flourish while demonstrating the incredible impact that meaningful work can have for individuals living with brain injury.

Read Ed and Spencer's inspiring story and learn how cultivating a garden can also lead to blooming growth in confidence, connection, and community ๐ŸŒฑ

New research from Northeastern University highlights something we see daily at SLI: regular physical activity can play a powerful role in traumatic brain injury recovery.

Researchers found that advocating for TBI survivors to stay mobile through promoting accountability and providing incentives has helped individuals with TBI stay active, leading to meaningful improvements in walking frequency and duration. It's another reminder that movement matters, not just for physical health, but for long-term independence, wellness, and quality of life.
