On behalf of the Joanne W. behalf of the Joanne W. Charles Memorial Foundation, we pause today to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his powerful reminder that “of all the forms of inequality, injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane.”

Dr. King understood that true justice is about more than words…it’s about access. Access to education, opportunity, safe homes, meaningful work, and healthcare that treats every person with dignity. His vision mirrors our foundation’s commitment to ensuring women and families receive the care, education, and support they deserve especially when facing ovarian cancer and other health challenges.
We carry his dream forward by advocating for prevention, early detection, and compassionate care. Until every community has the resources to heal and thrive, our work continues.

May we honor Dr. King not only with reflection, but with action. 💙

Our hearts are full after our Day of Giving. 💙

Because of our incredible donors and volunteers, the Joanne W. Charles Memorial Foundation was able to share comfort and encouragement with cancer patients across South Carolina.

💙This year’s impact:

✨ 307 blankets given to patients undergoing cancer treatment
✨ 50 special care bags prepared for gynecological cancer patients

All patients received a cozy blanket. The 50 gynecological patients also received a care bag that included warm socks, an ink pen, an ovarian cancer awareness ribbon, and a handwritten card of encouragement.

📍 Where the love went:

✨ SC Oncology Associates – Columbia:
153 blankets (including 40 gynecological patients)
✨ SC Oncology Associates – Sumter:
40 blankets (including 2 gynecological patients)
✨ MUSC Hollings Cancer Center:
64 blankets (including 5 gynecological patients)
✨ Roper Cancer Center:
50 blankets (including 3 gynecological patients)

A heartfelt thank you to the incredible teams at SC Oncology Associates (Columbia & Sumter), MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, and Roper Cancer Center, and to every donor, volunteer, and supporter who helped make this possible. Because of you, comfort was delivered, smiles were shared, and hope was felt.

Each blanket was a blessing multiplied. 💙
Together, we continue to honor Joanne’s legacy. One act of love at a time.

MYTH or FACT?! Before you repeat it, here’s the real truth.

Your ovaries still regulate hormones that affect heart, bone, and overall health and they can still develop cancer.

Your ovaries remain essential long after you’ve finished having children. They continue producing key hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and even small amounts of testosterone that protect your heart, strengthen your bones, support your metabolism, influence your mood, and help keep your whole body in balance.

And here’s something many people don’t realize: even after menopause, your ovaries don’t stop functioning completely. They still play a role in hormone production, and they can still develop ovarian cancer at any age.

This is why staying informed, paying attention to symptoms, and advocating for your health is so important. Your ovaries matter for life, not just for fertility.

💙 Sharing this could help another woman recognize a symptom, start a conversation, or even save a life.

✨ Know the Signs. Protect Your Health. ✨ Ovarian cancer is often called the silent disease, but the symptoms are there and your body is always speaking. Know what to look for:

💧 Frequent urination
😣 Persistent bloating
🍽️ Feeling full quickly or struggling to eat
🤢 Upset stomach, heartburn, or constipation
⚡ Pelvic or abdominal pain
🩸 Menstrual changes
😴 Extreme fatigue
💥 Lower back pain

These symptoms are easy to dismiss, but if they persist for more than a couple of weeks, talk to your doctor.

💙 Early detection saves lives. Trust your body. Trust your voice. From the Joanne W. Charles Memorial Foundation, we remain committed to awareness, support, and honoring the legacy of those we love.

📣 Share this to help another woman recognize the signs. Your repost could save a life. 💙✨
