For years I did all the talking.
Jesus taught us how to pray. It’s perfect and cannot be improved upon. But religion hides the real power. We think if we just say the right words, we’re good.
As my heart has matured in relationship, prayer has become more about listening than anything else...
Swipe slow. Pray it one line at a time, and stop to hear Him after each.
He’s still speaking. Set the phone down and follow Him in listening prayer today.

This is the whole thing God’s been teaching me lately, said by a man who paid for following Jesus with his freedom and life. We rush into His presence talking. This hero of the faith learned to stop, ask Him what and how to pray, and then listen.
What would change if you let Him lead the prayer instead of you?

For years I did most of the talking.
I’d bring Him my lists and the running commentary of my whole day and call it prayer. He was gracious with all of it. He really does love hearing our hearts. But there I was, talking and talking to Someone who already knows me better than I know myself.
When Jesus taught us to pray, I wonder if the greatest lesson is the pause after “Our Father.” Listen first... then we really follow His lead, in our prayer and in our day.
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27, NIV)
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” (Matthew 6:9-13, NIV)

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” 2 Corinthians 4:17 (NIV)

Paul wrote this after shipwrecks, beatings and prison cells, and he still called it light. Mama Heidi has spent decades laying down her life among the poor. She has counted the cost, and she would pay it again.

Surrender will ask something of you. Give Him your yes anyway, with your whole heart, and keep walking in obedience when it’s hard. The joy He gives is our strength.

Who needs to hear this today? Send it to them.

Follow Jesus.

That puzzle took longer than it should have. Nobody minded. Kids chattering, sharing little pieces of their lives.

God knows every heart around that circle, even the parts no one has said out loud yet. Sometimes it’s overwhelming because we can’t fix it all. But we can be one piece of His love showing up on the ground, pointing them home to Him.

Who in your circle needs you to slow down today?! Follow Jesus and do it.
