Summer is here! And that means so are the run ins with poison ivy & poison oak!
I got a call from a client with a request for a quick remedy for her daughter so we whipped this up today and I wanted to share what we used and how we did it because this is one of those things you can file away and use forever right at home!! We discovered this goldmine in Tennessee when our client was on day 11 of a wicked rash and steroid shots had already failed! It took 26 hours to completely clear his skin after using Out of the woods!

Byond BeLeaf “Out of the Woods” salve for poison ivy/oak relief:

Our poison ivy relief paste begins with whole calendula flowers, which we grind into a fine powder to maximize contact with the skin. Calendula has been treasured by herbalists for generations due to its soothing properties and its ability to support irritated, inflamed skin.

We then combine:
4 parts Bentonite Clay
1 part Aloe Powder
3 oz Ground Calendula
Distilled water is slowly added until a smooth paste forms.**WE ONLY USE DISTILLED WATER BECAUSE IT AVOIDS BACTERIAL CONTAMINATION THE MOST**

Why these ingredients?
🍃 Bentonite Clay helps absorb excess moisture from weeping rashes while creating a cooling sensation on irritated skin.

🍃 Aloe is well known for its ability to soothe hot, angry skin and provide comforting hydration.

🍃 Calendula is one of the most beloved skin supportive herbs in herbal medicine and is often used to calm redness and irritation.

This salve will stay fresh and usable for a week in the fridge! Discard after a week!

One important detail that many people overlook: Bentonite clay should always be mixed using wooden, silicone, glass, or other non-metal utensils.

Bentonite clay carries a natural electrical charge. Many herbalists believe that contact with metal may reduce some of the unique properties that make bentonite so popular for topical applications. For this reason, we always reach for wooden spoons and glass bowls when preparing our clay based remedies.

Mini tutorial on heating your Byond BeLeaf topical oils !! It’s good to leave the lid on as long as you keep the heat low to avoid water contamination! Just make sure you heat slow!

One of my most important jobs as your chosen practitioner is to constantly be improving upon and enhancing the formulas we create. And one of my favorite things about formulating is that I’m still learning right alongside all of you. In this line of work, I will never stop learning and that’s why I could not be happier with what God led me to do with my life.

Today, I reached for my Eden Oil immediately after finishing an infusion. The oil was still very warm from the infusion process and the herbs were freshly strained. I applied it to my elbow, which has been giving me significant issues from overuse or tennis elbow for the past few weeks.
What I noticed was an undeniable improvement in the effectiveness and the depth of relief.

There was such a difference in what I normally experience. Not a little stronger. Significantly stronger. Enough that I immediately started paying attention and repeated the experiment on Gray’s foot. I also recalled when we first made the new frankincense oil how it was fresh out of the infusion and still very warm when I used it for her neuropathy the first time and she loved it so much.

She had the same experience as me & without being prompted, told me how fast it felt better.

So yall know ME, I started digging and researching into WHY 😁

It turns out there’s actually some solid science behind it. Warm oil is thinner and less viscous than cool oil, allowing it to spread more evenly across the skin. Heat also increases blood flow to the area and can temporarily increase the skin’s permeability, opens the pores beautifully, potentially helping the beneficial compounds within the oil interact with the tissues more effectively.

Boswellia (frankincense) contains both aromatic compounds and resinous constituents. When gently warmed, those aromatic compounds become more active, which is why warm frankincense has a stronger aroma than cool frankincense. The resinous compounds also remain more fluid and evenly dispersed throughout the oil rather than becoming thicker as the oil cools.

In other words, the warmth may be helping deliver the entire herbal blend more effectively.

And Eden isn’t just frankincense.

It’s a synergistic blend of Boswellia Sacra, arnica, white willow bark, St. John’s wort. When the oil is warm, it appears that all of those constituents may have a greater opportunity to spread evenly, saturate the skin, and reach the tissues beneath.

Interestingly, frankincense has been paired with warmth for thousands of years. Historically, it was commonly used in warm oils, heated salves, warm compresses, and even through the use of incense. Ancient healers obviously didn’t discover things like terpene volatility, but they repeatedly combined frankincense with heat.

I’m sure everyone’s experience will be a little different. But the difference has been noticeable enough that I’m now recommending a simple experiment to my clients who have our bundles at home:

Place your bottle of Eden or Sacred Oil in a cup or bowl of hot water for 10 minutes before application. You’re aiming to gently warm the oil without shocking it with boiling water and damaging the aromatic compounds of it. Then apply as usual and see what you notice.

Some of the best discoveries aren’t made in the lab. Sometimes they’re made by accident in a small apothecary while a curious formulator stumbles upon a pile of gold and of course, by sharing those personal discoveries and real life stories, we can create quite a large ripple effect of relief for others!

Our EDEN Bundle was taken, by our client, inside the walls of U of M oncology and when given to their oncologist, he not only approved them for use by his patient, but went even further and said he would even recommend he continue using them long term!

Take a step back with me and just think for a moment. All of this started out of some very dark and heavy desperation to help my own family. TODAY, our products have been approved for use by oncology departments all over this country.

When this started, we were met with mostly adversity. Today, we are being met with collaboration and approval.

And that’s always been the goal the whole time. I just think it’s SO incredible and I am so grateful for teams who welcome integration! As a whole, I’m seeing far more teams that approve our products than those who don’t anymore!! We really are making progress, it can just be difficult to tell when you’re right in the middle of it everyday!

Let’s keep GROWING because the growth we are seeing is beautiful!
