On Saturday, Oct. 3, members of our diocesan community gathered at Calvary Cemetery for a special walking tour led by Barry Duncil.

Following the conclusion of the Season of Creation on Oct. 1, the walk offered an opportunity to continue reflecting on our call to care for creation by exploring and appreciating some of the oldest trees on the cemetery grounds.

Participants learned more about these remarkable trees while taking time to appreciate the history, beauty, and natural life found throughout Calvary Cemetery.

Thank you to Barry Duncil for sharing his knowledge and helping participants see this familiar place from a new perspective. 🌳

The Diocese of Lexington recently gathered for the annual Red Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church in downtown Lexington, presided over by Bishop John Stowe, OFM Conv.

The Red Mass brought together members of the legal and civic communities to pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit and for all those who serve in the administration of justice and public life. Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton was among those in attendance.

Following Mass, attendees gathered for a reception at the courthouse and a seminar presented by the Red Mass Committee titled “The Good Samaritan: Law in Service of the Common Good for Our Neighbors.”

Drawing on the example of the Good Samaritan, the seminar reflected on the responsibility of lawyers not to pass by those in need, but to use their unique role in the community to advance the common good. It also acknowledged the many pressures attorneys face, including demanding workloads, the adversarial nature of legal practice, difficult client expectations, and challenges that can affect mental, emotional, physical, and financial well-being.

The discussion emphasized that caring for one’s well-being is an important part of maintaining competence in the practice of law and highlighted the holistic support and resources available through the Kentucky Bar Association.

We are grateful to all who joined us for this meaningful tradition of prayer, reflection, fellowship, and service to our neighbors.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Thursday at Mirror Twin Brewing for our last Theology on Tap of the year!

We were grateful to welcome Bishop John Stowe for a special evening titled “The Witness of St. Francis,” exploring the life, history, and enduring witness of St. Francis of Assisi. Bishop Stowe reflected on how St. Francis’ example of humility, simplicity, peace, and care for creation continues to challenge and inspire us today.

Thank you to Bishop Stowe for sharing his insight and to everyone who came out for an evening of faith, fellowship, and great conversation.

We hope to see you at the next Theology on Tap in the spring!

Bishops, clergy, ministry leaders, advocates and communicators from across the region gathered Sept. 30 at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Knoxville, Tennessee, for “Deepening Our Moral Witness: A Regional Gathering on the Catholic Church’s Solidarity with Migrants.”

The gathering featured prayer, personal testimonies and presentations on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops “You Are Not Alone” campaign, Catholic social teaching, Hispanic ministry, immigration enforcement realities, effective communication and diocesan and parish planning. Bishop John Stowe, OFM Conv., offered opening remarks and later joined Archbishop Gregory Hartmayer, OFM Conv., and Bishop Evelio Menjivar-Ayala for a bishops’ panel on “Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ Present in Those Who Migrate.”

The gathering was presented in partnership with the Hope Border Institute and the Center for Migration Studies and included participants from dioceses throughout the region.

🌹 Feel like you’re supposed to have your whole life figured out already?

On this Memorial of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, take a breath.

Thérèse was a young Carmelite nun whose “little way” teaches us to trust God’s love and meet ordinary moments with love of our own.

That matters when you’re discerning your vocation. You can start responding to God today, even while you’re still asking where he’s leading you.

Make time for prayer. Be patient with someone who frustrates you. Serve when nobody notices. Bring your questions to Jesus.

Thérèse wrote, “my vocation is Love!” Whether God is calling you to priesthood, religious life, or marriage, love belongs at the heart of your response.

What is one small act of love you can offer God today?

If you’re wondering about priesthood or religious life, message the Vocations Office of the Catholic Diocese of Lexington. We’re here to help you take the next step.

Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, pray for us!

“God, what do you want me to do with my life?”

If you’ve prayed that question, make room for Sacred Scripture as you listen for an answer. 📖

Today, on the Memorial of Saint Jerome, we remember a man who devoted his life to studying, translating, and seeking to live God’s Word. He read. He heard. He answered. He followed.

Can we do the same?

One way to begin is lectio divina — the prayerful reading of Sacred Scripture. Take a short Gospel passage and spend some time with it:

• Read slowly. What is happening, and what does the passage say?
• Meditate. What does it reveal about Christ? How does it challenge or encourage you?
• Pray. Bring your questions, hopes, and fears to the Lord.
• Rest quietly in his presence. Then consider how you can put what you have received into practice.

Read within the faith of the Church, Scripture helps us recognize God’s voice and grow in the freedom to answer him. You may not finish praying with your whole future mapped out. But you can come to know more deeply the One who is calling you.

Whether you are discerning priesthood, religious life, or marriage, make room for God’s Word.

Saint Jerome read, heard, answered, and followed. What step can you take today?

Saint Jerome, pray for us!
