Parker's journey is a powerful reminder of what's possible when people believe in you.
When the University of Washington's Foster School of Business celebrated more than 700 graduates at commencement last week, Hutton Settlement had a very special reason to cheer. Among those crossing the stage was Parker Ritzmann, a 2022 West Valley High School graduate who spent more than five years living at Hutton Settlement Children's Home.
With encouragement from our Programs Director, David Milliken, Parker turned a rough start at Hutton into something remarkable: he became the founder of HOPE Neighborhood Roasters before taking his entrepreneurial drive to the Foster School of Business. Chud was joined at the ceremony by Parker's former houseparents, making it a true Hutton family celebration.
Parker's accomplishments don't stop there. Out of more than 5,800 applicants from around the world, he was selected for a fully funded master's fellowship at China's prestigious Tsinghua University through the Schwarzman Scholars program.
Parker is an inspiration to both Hutton staff and other Hutton kids. To watch one of their own overcome challenges, graduate high school and college, and earn a place in one of the world's most competitive fellowship programs helps other young people dream about their own futures. Parker, we are so proud of you and the young man you have become!
