Hutton Settlement Hutton Settlement Children's Home provides hope, opportunity and life to children most in need. The referral age is 5-14 and family groups are welcome.

Founded in 1919 by Levi Hutton, who was himself an orphan, the Hutton Settlement is listed on the Register of National Historic Places. The Hutton Settlement provides residential care for children, ages 5-18 but a child may remain through high school graduation.

Parker's journey is a powerful reminder of what's possible when people believe in you.

When the University of Washington's Foster School of Business celebrated more than 700 graduates at commencement last week, Hutton Settlement had a very special reason to cheer. Among those crossing the stage was Parker Ritzmann, a 2022 West Valley High School graduate who spent more than five years living at Hutton Settlement Children's Home.

With encouragement from our Programs Director, David Milliken, Parker turned a rough start at Hutton into something remarkable: he became the founder of HOPE Neighborhood Roasters before taking his entrepreneurial drive to the Foster School of Business. Chud was joined at the ceremony by Parker's former houseparents, making it a true Hutton family celebration.

Parker's accomplishments don't stop there. Out of more than 5,800 applicants from around the world, he was selected for a fully funded master's fellowship at China's prestigious Tsinghua University through the Schwarzman Scholars program.

Parker is an inspiration to both Hutton staff and other Hutton kids. To watch one of their own overcome challenges, graduate high school and college, and earn a place in one of the world's most competitive fellowship programs helps other young people dream about their own futures. Latest from campus. The evacuation map hasn't changed since the last update but the smoke has subsided a bit. The air attacks on the fire are still occurring - thank you DNR, Spokane County Fire, and all first responders.

We did not need to evacuate but will continue to monitor the evacuation plan.

A huge thank you for all of our community partners that reached out to offer support. From those that offered shelter to several that offered to transport our animals... we can't thank you enough. Our love and pride in our community is huge because you all love our children so much.

Update. Level 2 evacuation area expanded to the east of Argonne to just west of the Hutton campus (Lehman). From campus, it appears the fire is going up the hill toward our friends in the Northwood community. We have seen few flames as it appears the fire is still on the other side of the ridge. We are grateful for our firefighters including the air attacks on the fire.

We are holding tight. In the event, the Hutton campus is included in the Level 2 area, we will begin our evacuation plans.

We are safe, resilient and prepared. We do appreciate your prayers and thoughts.

Update from campus. We are safe but on alert and closely monitoring. The latest evacuation map has the Level 2 evacuation area up to the west side of Argonne. The campus is about 3/4 of a mile east from Argonne. We are not currently in an evacuation warning area.

We will continue to watch and be prepared. We would like to thank our friends at the HUB Sports Center as they've offered to their facility for us to evacuate to in the event it was needed. We will provide updates. Thank you for your prayers and positive thoughts.

For more than a century our clocktower has come to bear witness to the lives of the children who have called Hutton Settlement home - marking everything from ordinary days of childhood to major, life changing events. We're thankful to say, it will continue to witness many more.

The clocktower is an icon of the Hutton Settlement, part of the original construction from 1917-920. The tower served both practical and symbolic purposes—providing a timekeeping function for the structured daily life of the children, and acting as a visual focal point of the campus. Like the rest of the campus, it reflects the Tudor/Jacobethan Revival architectural style, designed by Spokane-based architects Harold C. Whitehouse and Ernest V. Price. Of the firm's many works, the Hutton Settlement was one of their most notable. (We're pretty fond of it too!)

What a rootin' tootin' good time at Hutton Settlement's Annual Achievement Dinner!

Each year, this special evening brings our campus community together to celebrate the accomplishments, growth, and resilience of the incredible children and youth we serve. From academic successes and personal milestone to honoring our graduating seniors as they prepare for the next chapter, the evening is a reminder of just how much can be achieved when children have a safe, healthy, and supportive place to call home.

Under the beautiful tent at Arbor Crest surrounded by our Board of Trustees, supporters, staff, and campus family, we gathered to recognize each child's unique journey and celebrate a year filled with hard work, determination, and achievement.

Most importantly, the evening reminded us why Hutton Settlement's mission of nurturing, educating, and preparing children in need of a safe and healthy home is so important.

A heartfelt thank you to our Board of Trustees, Arbor Crest, Kiemle Hagood, generous sponsors and supporters, and our dedicated staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this event such a memorable success.

Everyone at Hutton Settlement is incredibly proud to celebrate Scarlett for receiving the prestigious Congressional Award Gold Medal! This remarkable achievement reflects her dedication, perseverance, leadership, and dedication to personal growth.

Students who qualify for this awards must complete:

400 hours of voluntary public service ✅
200 hours of personal development ✅
200 hours of physical fitness ✅
One exploration/expedition lasting 5 days/4 nights✅

A part of this honor, Scarlett traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend the Congressional Awards Ceremony, where she was recognized along other outstanding young people across the nation.
