Thumb Blessing Boxes

The Bad Axe box has a bunch of carrots, cabbage and squash. Please take what you can use and leave some for others. But go get it so there are no issues with critters. Thanks!

Port Hope-Hope Activity Center and the Elkton Blessing Boxes both received much needed upgrades in the last week! Gagetown and Unionville are next and then I need to have more upgraded boxes made! Thank you to the community for the continued support! It’s all of you who make this project a big success. Sorry my picture of Elkton is in the dark. My husband put it up for me and then I stopped to stock it on our way home from soccer. Teamwork makes the dream work!

For this pilot year the project was full at 160 seniors. The project is meant to serve our 60+ population who have barriers getting to the grocery store or farmers markets to access fresh produce.

This year was a pilot and we are on hopeful to secure funding for next year. We have a couple outstanding applications. If we do secure funding there will be a sign up process as there was this year. Due to the limited number of spots this year we met our referral capacity within two weeks.

Thank you to all of our partners: Happy Farmer Produce, Thumb Area Transit, Four County Community Foundation, Molina Healthcare of Michigan, and Michigan Health Endowment Fund.

This project has been a blessing to many this year. Thanks for always going along with my wild ideas and being willing to try and think outside of the box with me. Blessed with some great partners and a wonderfully, supportive community.

With its new pilot program, Thumb Blessing Boxes is working to make fresh produce more accessible to Huron County residents with mobility and transportation issues.

Just an FYI the Port Hope Blessing Box has been temporarily removed. The plan is to have a new box up on Wednesday. This is the location at Port Hope-Hope Activity Center. The latches were broken and it was getting water inside and ruining the food. A nicer, new and improved box will be up soon! Thank you for your patience. 🤩
