Today, we pause.

This Memorial Day, we remember the brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom. But we also turn our hearts toward the families, the ones who carry the weight of that sacrifice every single day.

To the families with empty chairs at the table…
To the parents, spouses, children, and loved ones who feel the absence more deeply on days like this…

We see you.
We honor you.
We love you.

Your sacrifice has not been forgotten. Your pain is not unseen. And your loved ones’ legacy lives on in the freedoms we hold today.

At the Centre for Excellence of Pensacola, we stand with you, not just today, but always. You are part of our community, and we are here for you.

With gratitude. With honor. With remembrance. 🇺🇸

Familial Trafficking
What It Looks Like in Our Region (Pensacola & Circuit 1)

While exact numbers are difficult due to underreporting, regional data from Florida reports show:

* Florida consistently ranks #3 in the nation for human trafficking cases

* A significant percentage of child trafficking victims are exploited by someone they know

* National estimates suggest 30–40% of child s*x trafficking cases involve a family member or caregiver

* The Florida Panhandle, including Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, continues to be identified as a high-risk corridor due to tourism, highways, and transient populations

💡 Important Insight:
Many cases that appear to be “neglect,” “runaways,” or “survival situations” are often rooted in familial exploitation.

🚨 AWARE Initiative : Traffick Stop 🚨

How to Recognize the Signs of Familial Traffciking

Familial trafficking can be hidden, but there are indicators to watch for:

In Children & Youth

* Fearful, anxious, or overly submissive around a caregiver
* Sudden access to money, gifts, or hotel stays without explanation
* Chronic truancy or running away
* Signs of physical abuse or neglect
* Sexualized behavior inappropriate for age

In Caregiver Dynamics:

* A parent or guardian controlling all communication
* Inconsistent stories about the child’s whereabouts
* Substance abuse combined with financial instability
* Allowing multiple unrelated adults access to the child

If something feels off—trust your instincts.

DO:

* Stay calm and observant
* Document concerning patterns if possible
* Report through proper channels

DO NOT:

* Confront a suspected trafficker directly
* Attempt to “rescue” a child yourself

📞 Report Safely

* National Human Trafficking Hotline: 1-888-373-7888
* Text: “HELP” or “INFO” to 233733 #233733
