Wisconsin boasts over 60,000 waterfowlers, making it an ideal location for the 6th annual Waterfowlers Hunters EXPO. Offering a diverse array of seminars, events, contests, and activities tailored for waterfowling enthusiasts. On Friday & Saturday, August 21st & 22nd, Wisconsin will host its 6th Annual Waterfowl Hunters EXPO to fill this surprising gap. For nearly a year, non-profit groups, govern

ment agencies, and professional marketing teams have collaborated to provide this long-awaited service to the state's waterfowlers. Featuring a plethora of family-friendly activities ranging from cooking to dog training, a blend of science-based and practical seminars, showcasing the latest gear and industry advancements, and hosting the state’s official calling contests and more, this one-day waterfowling celebration caters to everyone, from novices to seasoned hunters. The WHEXPO will take place at the centrally located, spacious Sunnyview Exposition Center in Oshkosh, WI. Conveniently situated within a 90-minute drive from Wisconsin’s three major metropolitan areas, this location encapsulates over 65% of the state’s waterfowl stamp holders. With a nominal entry fee, no conflicts with regional outdoor shows, and strategically positioned right before the duck hunting season. We are currently collaborating with industry partners who seek prominence in this event in a state renowned for its outdoor ethos. Presenting sponsor opportunities encompass:
• Women’s Zone – For Women By Women
• Youth Zone – Kid-friendly hands-on activities such as decoy painting and calling
• Duck and goose calling contests
• Shooting activities – try-guns, flurry shoots
• Dog training seminars
• Environmental, conservation, and biological seminars
• Land and wetland management seminars
• Academic research symposiums
• Hands-on seminars focusing on practical aspects of waterfowling
• Cooking seminars
• Regulation and season structure info-gathering
• Boat rig displays
• Keynote speakers

Scheduled just days before the Wisconsin waterfowl season opener, this expo provides an unparalleled opportunity for industry players to showcase their latest equipment and services to a highly engaged waterfowling community. Operating under the 501(c)3 umbrella of the non-profit Wisconsin Waterfowl Association, participation fees for industry partners are kept low, potentially qualifying as tax-deductible contributions. Vendors exhibit and sales areas offer booth spaces available, 10’x10’ footprint and up, inclusive of entrance and parking fees. Furthermore, vendors stand to benefit from extensive visibility through the robust social and traditional media presence cultivated by organizers over decades.

Arthur (Art) F. Techlow III- Decoy Carver, Decoy Collector, Biologist, and Waterfowler
By: Bruce Urben, WWA President

Waterfowl hunting and decoy carving have gone hand in hand in the Oshkosh area since the 1800’s. The Winnebago chain was a waterfowling hotbed, and at least one book was written specifically about the decoy carvers of the Winnebago chain (Ron Koch, Decoys of the Winnebago Lakes, 1988). My next featured carver fits the bill as an Oshkosh decoy carver, but with one exception… he began carving in 1971 at age 18!

Art began carving his own decoys in 1971 at the age of 18. His first decoys were made of refrigeration cork. Carving was an easy decision considering his hunting buddy and father were carvers! After school and college, Art was hired by the WDNR in Oshkosh and gradually moved up to be the Winnebago System Biologist, his dream job on the system he grew up with. Art worked for the WDNR for 34 years.

DNR Now Accepting Artwork For The 2027 Turkey, Pheasant And Waterfowl Stamp Contests

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is now accepting artwork entries for the Wild Turkey, Pheasant and Waterfowl Stamp Design Contests. The winning designs will appear on the 2027 collection of stamps.
Each year, local artists from across Wisconsin compete for the opportunity to showcase their talents, commemorate their work and promote wildlife conservation across the state.
Hunters are required to purchase a species-specific stamp to legally harvest any of these game birds in Wisconsin. The sales of these three stamps generate hundreds of thousands of dollars annually for species management throughout the state, including habitat management, restoration, education and research projects.

Stamp design entries must be received or postmarked by Aug. 1, 2026. Judging will take place on Aug. 22, 2026, at the Waterfowl Hunters Expo in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The winners of the 2026 contests were:
• Wild Turkey – Sam Timm of Wautoma
• Pheasant – Caleb Metrich of Lake Tomahawk
• Waterfowl – Sam Timm of Wautoma
All stamp contest applicants should review the contest rules carefully to ensure the eligibility of their entries. Artwork must meet technical requirements to be properly processed and prepared for judging and display.
Registration, rules, entry information and reproduction rights agreements are available on the DNR’s Wildlife Stamp Funding and Stamp Design Contest webpage. https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/WildlifeHabitat/stamps

🦆 Inspiring the next generation of waterfowl conservationists!

The Wisconsin Waterfowl Association was proud to take part in the 6th Annual Forest/Natural Resources Day at the Pulaski School District School Forest, where 150 fourth graders learned all about Wood Duck ecology. Despite chilly temps, rain, and strong winds, students gathered under our tents eager to learn about migration, nesting, diet, and communication.

Hands-on experiences included exploring a wood duck nest box, seeing an unhatched egg, and getting an up-close look at a stunning taxidermy drake. The curiosity and questions from students were incredible! This annual event also helps kick-start the district’s Wood Duck curriculum for middle school students.

Huge thanks to our presenters, partner conservation groups, and the Pulaski School District teachers who make this impactful day possible each year. The future of conservation is bright! 💚
