🎉 We’re at Capacity! 🎉
Wow…you showed up in a big way. 💙
We’re excited to share that 1,600 attendees have registered for Abilities Day at the Zoo!
Because of that incredible response, event capacity has been reached and registration is now closed. We are unable to accept additional registrations.
To those who are registered, we can’t wait to spend the day with you at the Topeka Zoo & Conservation Center on April 20. It’s going to be something special.
And as always, thank you to our partners who help make this day possible: Kansas Gas Service Topeka Zoo & Topeka and Shawnee County Law Enforcement Volunteers. If you see a sponsor volunteer or zoo employee the day of the event, be sure to pass along a smile and a big Thank You!

Autism Awareness Month: Capper Foundation Perspectives
At Capper Foundation, building abilities starts with recognizing the strengths already within each child. During Autism Awareness Month, Capper Foundation pediatric therapists share what that looks like in action.

💬 From the perspective of:
Lakyn Habiger, Speech Language Pathologist, MS, CCC-SLP

"At Capper Foundation’s Pediatric Clinic, we believe that every child deserves to be seen for who they are. We see thinkers, problem-solvers, deep-feelers, creators, communicators—all with their own unique way of experiencing and interacting with the world.
Our job is not to change who they are, but to build on their strengths and support meaningful opportunities for connection, engagement, communication, and growth.
This month (and every month), we celebrate neurodiversity and the incredible perspective each child brings."

💙 Join Capper Foundation this month as we recognize Autism Awareness Month and celebrate the children of all abilities and families we serve.

Wednesday Wisdom + Welcome 💛☕
“I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things.” – Mother Teresa
This week’s Wednesday Wisdom comes from Jess, the new manager at our Stormont Vail Administrative Center location! We’re so excited to welcome her to the Dialogue Coffee House family.
At Dialogue, we see this lived out every day through teamwork, encouragement, and the unique strengths each person brings to the table. Together really is better.
Welcome Jess, we're glad you are here! 👋

Just next door to our Winfield adult day center, the Winfield Public Library has created a beautiful new outdoor patio space. And for the adults we serve, it will be more than just a nice place to sit.

The Patio @ WPL will be a space designed with ADA-friendly access. A place to spend time outside, connect with others, and be part of something right in their own neighborhood.
Even better, it’s created a meaningful work opportunity. Through a partnership with the library, members of our Winfield Cleaning Crew will help care for the patio—earning income, building job skills, and taking pride in their work.

Congratulations to the Winfield Public Library on this wonderful addition to the community, we’re grateful to have you as a neighbor and partner.

The Patio @ WPL grand opening will be April 24, 2026.

Ichabods in Action at Capper!
On Saturday morning, Washburn University took to Topeka with The Big Event, their annual day of service where students, staff, and supporters go out into the Topeka community and volunteer for few hours as a large group at different locations.
Capper Foundation was fortunate to welcome a fantastic group of Ichabods who took on the task of deep cleaning our pediatric PlayZone.
Thank you ladies for your generous donation of your Saturday morning and Washburn, for your continued commitment to giving back and for supporting our mission in such a meaningful way. We’re grateful for your partnership and support!

A Full Day of Easter Celebration at Capper! 🌸🐣
Preparations for today’s Easter celebration at our Topeka Adult Day Services began yesterday with the help of dedicated volunteers from Excel , who assisted with table decorations and Easter basket preparations.
Today’s festivities kicked off with a delicious lunch from the food truck, followed by our annual Easter egg hunt in the garden and courtyard areas at our Topeka campus. Treasures were found by all as adults served helped one another find eggs while sharing in the excitement of prizes.
What a great way to kick off spring around Capper! 💛

Insightful Experience 👀

Today, students from the Dental Hygiene Program from participated in an Ability Awareness Workshop at our Topeka campus. The workshop is designed to enhance participant’s awareness of everyday differences between all people and increase their sensitivity to the challenges of people with disabilities through activities in the following five areas:

• Adaptation
• Cognitive
• Communication
• Mobility
• Vision

The goal is for participants to learn to see the person instead of the disability, allowing them to focus on people’s abilities, not limitations.

Following the workshop, the students visited Dialogue Coffee House for an early lunch before the return trip to Emporia.
