WE HAVE SOME BIG NEWS TO SHARE 🎉

Sometimes, following your heart means taking a leap that feels equal parts terrifying and exciting. And that’s exactly where we find ourselves today.

After a lot of thought, conversations, and soul-searching, we’ve made the decision for Chris to pause his career (again) and dedicate his time and energy to growing the sanctuary and fulfilling the mission we set out to accomplish.

It’s a big personal decision for us, and one we don’t take lightly especially in this economy. But when we look at the animals who call this place home, the ones still waiting for a chance, and the vision we have for what this sanctuary can become, we know that now is the time for us to lean back in.

This means we’re working behind the scenes to restore various ways to welcome visitors again. From bringing back more volunteer opportunities and private tours to accepting field trips and making our Guest Room available, there’s a lot in the works! We’ll be rolling out more information on each of these opportunities soon, so stay tuned!

As we embark on this next leap of faith, we hope you'll continue to join us on this journey!

When we agreed to take in Ms. V and Jethro, we never imagined this sweet little twist!

Lewie has been a pretty independent guy ever since he arrived here two years ago. He prefers to keep his siblings at a respectable distance and isn’t much of a snuggler… unless, of course, it’s with his mama and ideally in her bed and under the covers.

But shortly after Ms. V and Jethro arrived, this started happening - Lewie sharing his naps with both of them! Not just tolerating them, but actually choosing to snuggle up beside them!

We never could have predicted this when we welcomed these two new faces into our family, but apparently, the Chihuahua bond is strong! And watching these three find comfort in one another? Well, that’s the kind of magic that makes rescue animals so special.

Good morning, friends. We were asked to care for this little guy who was found in the middle of a county road all alone by a passerby. The good samaritan stopped at neighboring houses, looked for the mom and unfortunately only found siblings that weren't so lucky 😔.

Freddie had his first vet visit on Friday and is being treated for an upper respiratory infection, an eye infection, and parasites.Thankfully, he was Feline Luekemia negative. At exactly 1lb, he's already showing improvements proving just what a fighter he is.

He somehow seems completely unfazed by the chaos of this house and is not shy to demand attention from his humans and four legged siblings. Thank goodness for the kind man who stopped while others kept speeding by.

Any additional funds we raise from yesterday's post will go directly to the vet bill for his treatment.

Well, today was an $1,800 day. Unfortunately we ran out of hay at the same time as our bi-monthly feed run. If we are being honest, we didn't have that much money in our sanctuary operating fund account so we did what we always do and paid for it out of our personal account.

With the big fall fundraising drives a month or so away yet, we'd greatly appreciate any help in the meantime.

A Mini Mule Update!

🔊 If you listen closely, you can hear a high-pitch squeal at the beginning of the video 🔊. That's Max saying good morning! All three mules wait at the fence line now for meal time! Oh how far they've come!

But even more exciting, not only are they feeling comfortable enough to come inside to eat (that was a milestone in itself), this morning all three stayed in the barn and ate while I was still in there feeding and watering the steers. Sugar and Mia usually wait until I leave to come in and eat. So proud of them all ❤️

Did you know today is World Farm Animals Day?

This day coincides annually with Mahatma Gandhi's birthday, honoring principles of non-violence and compassion. The hope is for humans to recognize farmed animals as the sentient, feeling individuals they are rather than mere commodities.

A few fun facts to go along with just a few of the faces who call our farm home and embody these qualities:

🐷 Pigs like Elise are incredibly social animals who form deep friendships and become genuinely attached to their companions. They can recognize their friends, show affection, and even become sad or stressed when separated from those they love.

🐔 Chickens like Alvin have surprisingly complex relationships and form close bonds with members of their flock. They communicate their feelings through dozens of different vocalizations and can become anxious when their friends are frightened or in distress.

🦃 Turkeys like Ross are naturally affectionate and social animals who form strong bonds with their flock. They recognize one another by their unique voices and often stay close to their companions, finding comfort and security in being together.

🐄 Cows like Charlotte form incredibly close friendships and often have a best friend they prefer to spend their time with. When separated from their favorite companion, they can experience increased stress, reminding us just how deeply they value connection and companionship.

🐑 Sheep like Rosemary have remarkable memories and can recognize the faces of their friends for years. They form strong social bonds, experience a range of emotions, and seek comfort from familiar companions when they feel frightened or uncertain.

Their friendships are every bit as meaningful to them as ours are to us. ❤️

As exciting as it was to share the news of sweet Ms. V’s arrival at the sanctuary yesterday, we’re not done sharing the good news just yet!

When our rescue partner made the trip to bring sweet Ms. V. to the sanctuary, she brought along her foster brother for the ride. And, well…

Nero is nine years old and had been with the rescue for seven months, with little to no interest from potential adopters. He has a couple of quirks that have made finding him a home a challenge. He sometimes lifts his leg in the house, and when he's uncertain, he uses his mouth to communicate. He doesn't bite, but he will put his mouth on you to make his feelings known. Understandably, these behaviors have made prospective adopters a little nervous.

But then we saw that sweet gray muzzle…and our hearts melted.

This boy is an absolute snuggle bug! He's good with other dogs, does his best to avoid the resident cats, and has so much love to give. We knew he might come with a few extra challenges, but we also knew that a few quirks shouldn't stand in the way of a dog finding a place to call home.

So, in a moment of weakness (or maybe just a whole lot of love), we decided this sweet senior deserved a chance with us, too.

Please join us in giving a big, warm welcome to Nero, who will now be known as Jethro! ❤️
