Meet Dolly! 🐿️💕

We’re so excited to welcome a very special new member to our ambassador team!

Dolly is a squirrel who was born without front legs. She was found as a baby, unable to climb back up the tree after coming out of the nest with her siblings.

Dolly will now have a very different kind of adventure ahead of her. She’ll spend her time with us participating in educational presentations and helping people learn more about squirrels, wildlife, and the importance of caring for the animals that share our community.

Dolly is also a wonderful reminder that being different doesn’t mean being less. Every animal has unique abilities, and sometimes those differences simply mean finding a different way to do things. We’re excited to share Dolly’s story and show others just how much she has to offer.

Wednesday ASMR! We have a big cohort of groundhogs this year and they eat. Like…. A lot. Truly. This guy is munching on one of his favorite snacks! 🍠

Since groundhogs eat a lot that means they cost a lot! Did you know you can sponsor a groundhog on our website? This will help us keep these little groundhogs healthy until they are ready to be released.

Hi 👋 it’s been a second since we posted! We are super busy at the rescue for this baby season. We are entirely run by volunteers!

Here’s some cute lil skunks we have in our care. 🦨 We are excited to see them grow and return them back to the wild once they are ready.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Roanoke Wildlife Rescue 💚

When baby wildlife truly needs help, our team steps in to become the caregiver they no longer have. From around-the-clock feedings to warmth, safety, and medical support, we work to give every orphaned animal the care they need to grow strong and healthy. 🍼🌿

Even in the wild, moms work around the clock to keep their babies safe, fed, warm, and loved. From tiny squirrels and rabbits to foxes, raccoons, and groundhogs like this sleepy little one, wildlife moms do more than most people ever get to see. 🦫💛

As baby season continues, we want to remind everyone that the best thing you can do for young wildlife is make sure they truly need help before intervening. Many babies are not orphaned, and mom is often nearby caring for them.

If you ever find a baby wild animal and aren’t sure what to do, please visit our website for guidance before moving them. Your actions can make all the difference. 🐾

A small moment of quiet after a bottle feeding. 🦝

We are super busy here at RWR and the babies just keep coming. These raccoons will be with us until late summer when we will release them back into the wild. Babies are expensive but worth the money and exhaustion.

Is it Groundhog Day? Some days it feels like that here! We welcomed some groundhogs over the weekend and they’re feeling jazzy about their rehabilitation! 🤗 Our team is excited to watch them grow over the next several months before their release!

We moved our fox kits out to their outdoor enclosure! 🦊 They are loving their new setup. We are in need of a second enclosure and we need your help.

We are having a opossum baby boom! Baby season is in full swing here at RWR. It’s been super busy but we love watching these babies grow.

We are happy to share a successful rehabilitation story! Our found in road squirrel made a full recovery and has been released back into the wild 👏🎉Here she is in her outdoor enclosure before release.

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do! 💚
