LGBTQIA+ History Month should be about more than recognizing history. It should also make us ask: what are we doing right now that will become part of that history?

In our own little corner of Delaware County, we have watched LGBTQIA+ community spaces grow, Pride become bigger, and conversations about equality move from community organizing into local government, flag raisings, and law itself.

So this month, look at your own community...

Has your local government formally recognized its LGBTQIA+ residents through resolutions?

Does your community have meaningful nondiscrimination protections and a Human Relations Commission where residents can raise concerns about discrimination?

Are local and state officials discussing policies, including shield protections, that affect LGBTQIA+ and transgender residents?

Does your municipality publicly recognize moments like Pride Month, Transgender Day of Visibility, LGBTQIA+ History Month, and Transgender Day of Remembrance?

And with Transgender Day of Remembrance coming up on November 20, ask your local government what it plans to do to recognize the transgender members of your community, including whether the Trans Flag will be raised from November 20–23.

History is not only made by the people we read about decades later.

It is made in council chambers. In community centers. In ordinances and resolutions. In commissions and public policies. In Pride celebrations. And in ordinary people deciding today they will do something new and participate in their local government.

So instead of only asking, “What is our LGBTQIA+ history?”

Ask: “What are we doing today that will become part of it?”

Make history in your own little corner.

DCCC students and student clubs!!!! 🏳️‍🌈🎉🥳

Join us on Wednesday, October 7 from 2–4 PM as we celebrate National Coming Out Day with Drag Me to Safety, a free drag performance and harm reduction game show at Delaware County Community College!

Hosted by Mary Muerte and UDTJ, the event will feature a free drag show, free food and snack, harm reduction trivia, prizes, Delco Pride merch, Wawa gift cards, and more.

Today, the U.S. Department of Education formally rescinded the 2024 Title IX regulations that explicitly protected LGBTQIA+ students from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

For LGBTQIA+ students across Delaware County: UDTJ is here for you.

Our Arts & Crafts Club last night at the Upper Darby Municipal Library was amazing!

Thank you to our many local LGBTQIA+ community members joined us, including several people new to the area and thank you to ou club host Mendoza! They did a great job, so excited for this club to be launching!

People brought projects they were already working on, tried out new crafts, and spent the evening
connecting with others in the community.

We cannot wait for the next one! Join us October 19th from 6–8 PM for pumpkin carving and painting at the Upper Darby Municipal Library.

And don’t forget, our Delco Q***r Coffee Social is this week! Saturday, September 26 at 12 PM at Camellia Coffee House in Lansdowne. Come grab a coffee, meet new people, network, and make some friends.

Tonight’s the night! Come hang out with us for the Delco Q***r Arts & Crafts Club at the Upper Darby Municipal Library from 6–8 PM!

Bring your own crafts, that project you’ve been meaning to finish, or just bring yourself. We’ll have plenty to do, including coloring, making buttons, bracelets, and more.

This is one of our community-led clubs, and everyone is welcome. You do not have to be LGBTQIA+ to join us, this craft club is open to all, and is an inclusive space for all adult to find community, make friends, and just chill.
