When thank you simply isn't enough!

On behalf of the Neptune Township Office of Emergency Management, I want to sincerely thank every agency, department, organization, and individual who came together to honor our Deputy Coordinator, Bil Rosen.

In emergency services, we talk a lot about being a family. This week, that word took on an entirely different meaning.

We watched as members of the emergency services community came from neighboring towns throughout Monmouth and Ocean Counties, from communities across New Jersey, and from well beyond our immediate area to stand beside us and honor one of our own.

Many of you jumped in almost immediately. You stood up in our time of need and we are eternally grateful!

Bil dedicated more than four decades of his life to public safety and emergency services. He was a leader, educator, mentor, responder, and friend to so many. His career and his impact extended far beyond Neptune Township, and the response we witnessed this week was a reflection of the life he lived and the number of people he touched along the way.

He was our Deputy. Our coworker. Our friend. The guy with the dad joke at exactly the right — or completely wrong — moment. He was someone you could call when you needed an answer, a hand, some guidance, or sometimes just someone who understood. Always with a cup of coffee in his hand and a few jokes up his sleeve to make you smile. Losing Bil has created a void that can never truly be filled.

To every Office of Emergency Management, EMS agency, police and fire department, hospital, county and state partner, honor guard and ceremonial detail. To every responder, volunteer, and member of the emergency services community who traveled to Neptune, stood beside us, provided apparatus, assisted with the procession, covered a post, helped with logistics, or simply came to pay your respects, thank you. Every contribution helped give Bil the honor and farewell he deserved, and none of it went unnoticed.

A very special thank you to the agencies and individuals who stepped in to cover our responsibilities and protect our community so that those who worked closest with Bil could step away from their duties and be there to say, "Until we meet again". Giving us that opportunity was a gift we will never forget.

Most importantly, thank you for surrounding Bil’s wife Kristen, his son Sebastian, his family, and his extended emergency services family with an incredible amount of love and support during an unimaginable week.

We spend our careers being the people who show up when someone else is having their worst day. This week, when we were facing ours, you showed up for us with an immeasurable amount of support. We will never forget it.

Bil was a tremendous advocate for mental health and support systems. Some of those that he put into place helped get us through this week.

There will never be an adequate way to thank everyone who helped carry us through this week. Please know that your presence, your support, and everything you did for Bil, his family, and all of us will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, Bil. We’ll take it from here!

Michael DiLeo
Emergency Management Coordinator
