Huge thanks to Prof. Linda Bedard and the Quinnipiac University administration for launching a Wheel It Forward medical equipment lending library in North Haven. 💚 Your vision and leadership show what’s possible when compassion and innovation come together on campus.

20,000!!! 🌟

Today, we entered the 20,000th item into our inventory system, allowing anyone to easily borrow equipment at no cost - with the option to make a donation if they're able.

What started as a simple idea has grown into thousands of pieces of durable medical equipment helping people and families when they need it most.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, volunteered, supported, and helped make this milestone possible. 💚

Too much of a good thing? We just saw it firsthand!

It’s not every day that a partner asks to be removed from your FREE directory because it’s working too well.

This week, we received a call from a legislator in a nearby state regarding a small DME lending closet in his community. They had been listed on our GotDME directory, which helps people nationwide find free places to borrow or donate durable medical equipment near them.

That organization suddenly found themselves inundated with requests to borrow or donate equipment, far more than they could realistically handle. In just 30 days, their page was viewed 182 times by 136 users. For a small, volunteer driven operation that typically serves only a handful of individuals each month, that level of visibility became overwhelming. We temporarily removed the location from the GotDME directory to give them some breathing room.

What happened really reinforced something we already knew. The need for accessible durable medical equipment is far greater than most people realize, and many existing loan closets simply are not built to handle the level of demand that’s out there.

That’s exactly why, with the recent launch of our fourth Wheel It Forward branch at Quinnipiac University in North Haven, we’re working to build scalable DME “library branches” that can serve more people, support families, and help reduce unnecessary waste. ♻️

We’re thrilled to officially announce the Grand Opening of Wheel It Forward’s fourth library branch, located at Quinnipiac University in North Haven. 🎉💚

This new Wheel It Forward branch, run by graduate physical therapy and other healthcare related students on campus will help expand access to essential equipment for community members recovering from surgery, injury, or age-related mobility challenges. At the same time this first of its kind collaboration will create meaningful hands-on learning opportunities for students at Quinnipiac University. We call this a win-win-win - for the students, the community, and the environment.

A huge thank you to the incredible QU DPT students, faculty, and administration who helped make this vision a reality. Your passion, dedication, and commitment to service is exactly what drives this mission forward, and we couldn’t be more grateful. 🙏

We can’t wait to see the impact this partnership will make as we build this Quinnipiac Model together with the goal of spreading it to other universities across America. ✨

Meet Bumble Bee!

One of our 25 pediatric wheelchairs was returned to our library network today. That's always great news because it means the borrower, in this case a six year old named Harrison, has fully recovered. Harrison named the wheelchair "Bumble Bee" - which we think is a great name.

Because of our innovative seeding program, Wheel It Forward library branches always have pediatric wheelchairs, transport wheelchairs, manual wheelchairs and other kinds of durable medical equipment available on demand in all its branches. They can be borrowed at no cost and returned when no longer needed.

Do you need basic medical equipment to keep a family member safe, independent, and mobile at home? Our teams in Stamford, Newtown, Bridgeport and at our newest branch at Quinnipiac University in North Haven are happy to help.

On EarthDay.org we love to reflect on our dual mission. Providing immediate access to durable medical equipment for those in need, at no cost - keeping our community members mobile and safe at home. AND - helping save the planet. We estimate Wheel It Forward through reuse and recycling kept almost 1000 metric tons of Carbon out of the atmosphere in 2025 alone, and we are just getting started. That's the same amount of Carbon saved by a forest with over 40,000 trees and it's the equivalent of keeping over 200 cars off the road

That’s what Wheel It Forward has done since 2020.

Now we’re working toward something bigger: a permanent Newtown location to expand this impact even further.
