Summer can be a useful time for school-support staff to reflect on what worked, what felt unclear, and what may need to be strengthened before the next school year begins.

This blog post offers reflection questions for school counselors, school psychologists, and other school-support professionals who are reviewing their school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports. It walks through key phases of MTSS implementation, from forming a team and defining expectations to reviewing data, strengthening interventions, and sustaining progress.

June is PTSD Awareness Month, a time to increase understanding, reduce stigma, and share resources that can help Service members, veterans, and their families.

The guide "Returning From the War Zone: A Guide for Families of Military Members" offers information on combat stress reactions, PTSD symptoms, family communication, treatment options, and where to find help. It also reminds families that combat stress reactions are not a sign of weakness and that effective treatment and support are available.

🇺🇸 Happy Birthday, U.S. Army! 🇺🇸

Today, we honor the soldiers, families, and communities connected to the U.S. Army's long history of Service.

Army-connected students bring unique experiences, strengths, and perspectives into classrooms across the country every day, and schools play an important role in helping these students feel valued, understood, and supported.

Flag Day is an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of Service, sacrifice, and community.

For military-connected students and families, the flag can carry personal meaning tied to loved ones who serve, frequent transitions, and the strength it takes to support one another through change.

Today, we recognize the families, educators, and communities who help military-connected students feel seen, supported, and welcomed.

As school teams prepare for summer planning and the year ahead, it is a good time to revisit how MTSS can support students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.

This learning module focuses on the relationship between special education evaluations and MTSS, with particular attention to social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. It provides background information, explains how tiered intervention models can help identify SEB difficulties, and highlights possible positive outcomes of implementing MTSS in schools.

Deployment can affect the whole family, including children who may be coping with worry, sadness, separation, changes in routine, or fear about a parent’s safety.

During PTSD Awareness Month, it is important to recognize that military-connected children may need support before, during, and after deployment. Adults can help by listening, offering reassurance, maintaining routines, limiting distressing media exposure, and creating opportunities for children to talk about their feelings in age-appropriate ways.

This resource from the VA’s National Center for PTSD offers guidance to help families understand how children may respond to deployment and how adults can support them through uncertainty and change.

Summer support for military-connected students does not always require a new program or large initiative. Sometimes, small and consistent communication practices can help families feel informed, welcomed, and connected.

Our latest blog shares practical ways schools can strengthen family-school partnerships, including positive updates, clear points of contact, welcome messages, and consistent communication routines.

As summer approaches, it is a good time for school teams to revisit tools and strategies that can strengthen their MTSS processes before the next academic year begins.

Our "Direct Behavior Ratings" learning module offers a practical way for classroom teachers to collect observable behavioral data for progress monitoring without requiring a trained observer to be present. This learning module provides an overview of DBR, explains how it can support MTSS implementation, and shares examples of freely available resources that may help schools put DBR into practice.

D-Day gives us the opportunity to remember the courage and sacrifice of the Allied forces who landed on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

Their bravery helped turn the tide of World War II and reminds us of the extraordinary cost of freedom. Today, we honor those who served, those who gave their lives, and the families who carried their legacy forward.
