We’re interrupting our hay fundraiser because we have an emergency. ❤️‍🩹

Over the weekend, our senior girl Chantrelle began showing signs of what initially appeared to be another UTI. We had an incredibly difficult time finding veterinary care for her, but thankfully, Spartan Veterinary Services, LLC helped guide us and squeezed Chantrelle into an appointment at the very end of an already incredibly busy day today. We are so, so grateful they did.

Unfortunately, we still don’t know exactly what is happening with our girl.

Chantrelle is very anemic, and one of the concerns right now is possible hemolytic anemia. Bloodwork has been sent out so we can hopefully get a better picture of what is happening internally and figure out where we go from here. So for right now, things are still very much up in the air.

Today’s veterinary visit alone was just over $500. Tomorrow, we need to pick up additional supplements, food, and other things to support her while we wait for answers, putting us close to $600 already before any additional testing or treatment she may need.

We will post our veterinary receipt in our stories for transparency.

Of course we are already in the middle of asking for help with our hay fundraiser. We know everyone has been giving what they can, and we are incredibly grateful.

But right now, we really, really need help for Chantrelle. She is very sick. And whatever comes next, we want to be able to give her every bit of care she needs.

Happy Maize Monday from the queen herself. 👑🐮

This rainy girl had zero interest in staying under shelter while the hurricane passed through. As long as the weather was still warm, Maize was perfectly happy to stand out in the rain and enjoy the beautiful fall day. 😂

She would also like everyone to know that she is VERY serious about her hay. Very very serious.

We just crossed the $500 mark in our hay fundraiser!!!! PLEASE remember, every single donation is being DOUBLED. If we can raise the full $3,000, it becomes $6,000 for hay for the sanctuary.

So Maize is asking very nicely...

Millet and Lentil are here to remind you that we really need your help with hay!!! 🐮

We are so incredibly grateful for every person who has already donated to this fundraiser. Every single donation matters, and we know people are giving what they can.

At the same time, the need in front of us is beyond urgent. We have to place our next hay order soon, and we still have a long way to go before this fundraiser is fully funded.

So far, we have raised $397 toward our $3,000 goal. Every dollar donated is being matched by an incredibly generous anonymous donor, which means if we can raise the full $3,000, it becomes $6,000 for hay.

Hay is one of our biggest and most essential expenses, especially as we head into the colder months. It keeps residents like Millet and Lentil fed and healthy!

We are so so so thankful for the support that has gotten us this far. We just need a lot more help to get us the rest of the way.

"Maize love hay," and luckily for her, every donation to our hay fundraiser is currently being DOUBLED!

Our total goal is $6,000, with an incredibly generous anonymous donor matching every dollar we raise up to $3,000. That means we only need to raise $3,000 from our community to fully fund the entire $6,000 goal.

So far, we’ve raised $197, which means we still have a long way to go, but every single donation gets us twice as far.

Sweet Pea came to us with several of her siblings after their mom was hit by a car. They had been safely tucked inside her pouch, and thankfully that person stopped, found the babies, and brought them to us.

Our goal with wildlife is always release, but not long after Sweet Pea arrived, we found out one of her back legs had been completely shattered in the accident. It eventually healed well enough for her to use, but not well enough for her to safely return to the wild. So while her siblings eventually left us, Sweet Pea stayed. And she made a whole little life here.

She climbed cat trees, curled up with the cats, ran on the cat wheel, loved her snacks, loved being carried around, and became such a part of our everyday life that it was hard to remember what the house felt like before her.
We always knew we would never get enough time with her. Opossums have heartbreakingly short lives, and Sweet Pea was around a year and a half old.

While her story was not the rehabilitation story we originally hoped to tell, Sweet Pea ended up writing a beautiful story all her own. She became part of our family. She got to climb, explore, eat all the snacks, make the weirdest little group of friends, and be loved so incredibly much.

We’ll love you forever, Sweet Pea. No matter how many years pass, we’ll always be able to find our way back to you in the memories we made together. 💚

Sky is such a cuddlebug 🥰 While we were putting everyone to bed, all she wanted was hugs, attention, and to stay right by our side.

🚨 EVERY DONATION DOUBLED 🚨

Maize enjoying her hay is cute and sure does put a smile on our faces. The amount of hay it takes to get everyone through winter is... a little less cute. 😬😂🌾

This year, we are hoping to raise $6,000 toward our winter hay supply. And before you say anything... yes, we know. That is a lot of money.

But when our larger hay eating residents can go through around 150 pounds of hay in a single day during the colder months, it adds up very quickly.

🎉 The really exciting part is that a very generous anonymous donor has offered to match the first $3,000 donated!!!! 🎉

That means once our community raises $3,000, we will have reached the full $6,000 goal. 💚

Our pastures are already beginning to slow down for the season, and with less fresh forage available, some areas are becoming more heavily grazed. As we move further into fall and toward winter, our residents will rely more and more on hay every day.

Our goal is to build up our supply now so we are prepared for the colder months ahead.

And thanks to this matching gift, every donation gets us there twice as fast!

Millet has come such a long way since she came to live with us earlier this year. She went from not wanting to be touched to this. She loves to give us licks, uses us a scratching post and chews on our hands. 😂
