The Narcissa Whitman Chapter distributed approximately 200 U.S. flags during Yakima's Fourth of July celebration yesterday. Children and teenagers also enjoyed stopping by our booth to color their choice of four patriotic bookmarks.

A heartfelt thank you to Jill, Susan, Susie, Laura, and Holly, who cheerfully staffed the booth throughout the day despite temperatures climbing into the 90s. Your dedication and enthusiasm helped make our outreach a great success!

Our "America Celebrates 250 Years" event on Saturday was an overwhelming success for Yakima!

Families had the opportunity to experience what life was like in a Revolutionary Army encampment, including demonstrations of cannon firing and the loading and firing of muskets. Members of the Sons of the American Revolution shared their mission and history with attendees, while the Yakima Genealogy Library enjoyed strong book sales throughout the day.

Visitors were delighted to meet and converse with George Washington and John Hancock, and the Town Crier kept everyone informed by ringing his bell and announcing the various presentations. The Mary Ball Chapter showcased colonial domestic chores and engaged young visitors with interactive games and activities. The Elizabeth Ellington Chapter presented a fascinating “show and tell” of Revolutionary-era clothing and introduced visitors to games enjoyed during the colonial period, providing an engaging glimpse into everyday life in early America.

The event would not have been possible without the dedication of the 16 members of the Narcissa Whitman Chapter who volunteered throughout the day, welcoming visitors, assisting with activities, and helping ensure the celebration ran smoothly from start to finish.

Best of all, 12 ladies expressed interest in becoming members of the DAR! We are thrilled by the enthusiasm shown throughout the event and grateful to everyone who helped make this celebration such a memorable success.

At our May meeting, we welcomed a new member, Carla, to the chapter. Our guest speaker, Carol Barany, shared helpful suggestions on herbs and spice plants to include in our gardens. We also paid tribute to our late member, Opal Myhers.

This was my final report (at state conference) for the Celebrate Daughters committee.

Celebrate Daughters is excited to spotlight what truly makes our organization thrive: Professional Development, Health and Wellness, and Celebrating Our Members—because when our members grow, we all grow stronger.

DAR is more than an organization—it’s historic preservation, education, patriotism, friendship, and family. These aren’t just words—they’re the heartbeat of everything we do.

Our mission is simple but powerful: to celebrate, connect, engage, and recognize the incredible women of DAR. Every one of you brings passion, talent, and dedication—and that deserves to be seen and celebrated!

DAR was founded by bold, committed women who believed in making a difference. Now it’s our turn. Together, we have the energy, the purpose, and the responsibility to carry that legacy forward and make it even stronger.

So, let’s lift each other up, and keep DAR shining bright!
