We are thrilled to have Bay Area Tintype provide a pop-up at Medium Art Center in Ukiah on Saturday, June 13th for tintype portraits.

They will be set up between 12:00-5:00PM. These tintypes will be taken outside with natural lighting, so if you have any bright light sensitivities, no strobe flashes this day.

Here's a direct link to book your session: https://www.bayareatintypes.com/portrait-bookings
You can see more of their work here as well
Booking link is also in their bio

A tintype is a photograph using a process developed in the 19th-century that captures the image on a thin, dark-enameled sheet of metal or iron. Because the metal is coated with light-sensitive chemicals and developed immediately, every tintype is a physical, one-of-a-kind original piece of art.

Pop on over all dressed for the Redwood Metal Fest to get your portrait!
(Medium will be having a table of goodies at RMF as well)

MEDIUM Art Center Announces Call for Entry: "The Music Within: Our Worlds Matter” July Juried Group Exhibition

MEDIUM Art Center invites artists of all backgrounds to submit work for its upcoming July juried group exhibition, The Music Within: Our Worlds Matter.

All forms of art are accepted, such as music, painting, photography, illustration, etc. Each artist can submit three pieces maximum, and one of three will be accepted. We are breaking down walls, coming out of isolation into celebration, because our worlds matter.

Supplies provided. Limited space available, registration suggested.

Description:

Join Angel for this stenciling workshop to learn how to apply stencils to various surfaces by using a variety of methods in designing, cutting, and application. You will learn techniques on how to apply custom stencils on fabrics, paper, and plexiglass. Our focus will be to create unique one of a kind works of art by using spray paint and acrylics as our medium. Participants will take home their own hand cut stencils as well as their original stenciled works of art. In addition, participants may bring your own article of clothing and you can apply your stencil to create your custom style.

Instructor:

Angel Garcia is a local visual artist and musician originally from Los Angeles. With native roots in central Mexico, Angel’s artistic journey, which spans over 30 years, includes live musical performances, incorporating handmade masks and body painting. He has not only dedicated his life to music as a composer and song writer, but also as a graphic designer, which inspired a unique stenciling style born out of his love for free-hand ink drawing. His intricate hand cut stencils are an extension of his passion to continue to explore his indigenous roots, evoking our ancient memory and promoting the understanding of the healing power of art and responsibility we hold as artists.

This project was funded by a grant from the Community Foundation of Mendocino County.

With the support of the Community Foundation Field-of-Interest Arts and Culture fund, Medium Art Center will hold a series of in-person workshops that will be held over Spring/Summer 2026 at our downtown location. Through hands-on art-making activities, participants will learn from workshop facilitators to tap into their creativity and learn the necessary skills to create art on their own.

🎂Come celebrate 5 years of arts programming! 🍰

Medium Art Center will celebrate our fifth anniversary on Friday, June 5, with “There Will Be Cake,” a group exhibition featuring artwork created by our organization’s board of directors.
The exhibition opens during Ukiah’s First Friday Art Walk and marks the first time our nonprofit’s leadership team has shown our own artwork together in a public exhibition. And yes, we will also have cake to eat. 😄

Founded in 2021 during the pandemic, Medium Art Center began as a small grassroots arts project by local artists seeking connection and creative community. Five years later, the organization has grown into one of Mendocino County’s busiest community arts spaces, hosting monthly exhibitions, workshops, youth art programs, figure-drawing sessions, open-mic nights, live music events, and community gatherings.

Over the past five years, Medium has showcased the work of hundreds of artists while continuing our mission to keep the arts accessible through free exhibition submissions, optional commissions, and free or low-cost public events.
Our organization has operated from three locations since opening and continues to expand our programming, with a growing focus on arts education, music, and community-based events.

“There Will Be Cake” celebrates both the artwork and the people behind the scenes who have spent the last five years hanging shows, writing grants, moving pedestals, cleaning galleries, organizing events, and somehow keeping the whole thing going.

The opening reception will take place Friday, June 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. during First Friday Art Walk at Medium Art Center, 110 S. School Street in downtown Ukiah. The event is free and open to the public.

MEDIUM will be closing early Thursday, May 21st at 4:30. There will be no Open Mic this month.

We’ve been invited to pitch Medium Art Center at the next 100+ Women Strong Inland Mendocino event, where one local nonprofit will receive a community-funded grant of at least $10,000.

Come cheer us on!

100+ Women Strong Inland Mendocino is a grassroots giving circle organized through the Community Foundation. Community members contribute $100 to attend the event, hear presentations from three nonprofits, and vote on which organization receives the collective donation.

Event Details:
May 21, 2026
5:30–7:30 p.m.
Frey Vineyards
11700 West Road, Redwood Valley

The way it works is simple:
Three nonprofits present
Each organization gets five minutes to pitch
Attendees ask questions
Everyone who contributes $100 gets a vote
The winning nonprofit receives the prize

If more than $10,000 is raised, the remaining funds are split between the other presenting nonprofits. Even if contributing the $100 is not possible right now, simply showing up, cheering us on, and helping fill the room with support for the arts still means a great deal to us.

For Medium Art Center, this funding would directly support community arts programming, exhibitions, workshops, youth opportunities, live music events, and expanded public access to the arts in Mendocino County.

Over the past five years, we’ve built this organization from the ground up. What started as a strange pandemic-era idea became a real community arts space filled with exhibitions, workshops, performances, open-mic nights, figure-drawing sessions, youth art shows, and countless conversations among creative people trying to make something meaningful happen in a rural county.
We believe small towns deserve ambitious art spaces too.

Thank you for believing in what we do and helping prove that community-supported art still has a pulse around here.
