Community. Partnership. Collaboration. We are in this together!
Let's keep TIMA on Tybee!

At the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, we believe our communities are stronger when we come together. We look forward to seeing the future for the Tybee Island Maritime Academy (TIMA) and Memorial Park—and, of course, how we at the YMCA can best serve our Tybee Island community.

Our President and CEO, Joel Smoker, shared his thoughts on the YMCA’s long-standing partnership with Tybee Island and the opportunities ahead:

“The YMCA of Coastal Georgia has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with the City of Tybee Island and its residents, offering a wide range of health initiatives and activities for all ages. As the master plan for Memorial Park evolves, we remain as committed today as we were more than 20 years ago to fostering a healthy, connected Tybee community.”

“Across the Southeast, several YMCAs have successfully partnered with schools and local agencies through a community development model known as Purpose Built Communities. Currently, the Tybee Island YMCA partners with the Tybee Island Maritime Academy on several programs, and if TIMA finds its home in Memorial Park, we anticipate that partnership will continue to grow.”

On October 9, Tybee City Council will vote on a landmark resolution to keep TIMA on Tybee.

Contact your City Council members and urge them to vote YES!

A YES vote keeps the conversation and public input going through the Memorial Park Master Plan—and shows support for keeping our school on the island.

A NO vote stalls the process and signals that the City doesn’t support TIMA’s future here, putting the school and our year-round families at risk.

This resolution does NOT sell or give away City land, spend taxpayer money, or approve construction. It simply allows for ongoing public engagement, and allows TIMA to raise private funds for a permanent home on Tybee by signaling that Tybee wants them to stay here.
