What a busy day at the museum today! We had lots of visitors, and it was wonderful getting to visit with everyone. Thank you so much for stopping by and for all of your support of the museum and local history.

A special thank you to the group from Tuttle, North Dakota! It was so much fun talking with you about our town and hearing about yours. We wish you the best of luck as you work to set up your museum in the school building you purchased — it sounds amazing, and we can’t wait to hear more about it!

We’ve made some exciting updates to our Front Station Room at the museum! 🚗⛽

Thanks to the wonderful items that have been donated and treasures the Historical Society has been able to find, the room is really starting to capture the look and feel of an old-time gas station. It has been exciting to watch this space come together and bring a little piece of Tuttle history back to life.

One special addition is the Coke cooler, placed in honor of all the stories shared about walking to the station for a cold soda on a hot day. For many, the local station wasn’t just a place to fuel up — it was a gathering spot, a place to visit, and a memory-maker in our community. ❤️

We still have more to add, especially automotive memorabilia and pieces connected to Tuttle’s gas station history, so stay tuned as we continue building this display.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who stopped by during the holiday weekend — we truly enjoyed visiting with you, hearing your stories, and sharing memories. Your support and interest mean so much to us!

If you haven’t visited lately, stop by and see what’s new!

🇺🇸 Memorial Day Remembrance 🇺🇸
As we spend time with family and friends this holiday weekend, let us take a moment to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is a time to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Originally known as *Decoration Day*, the tradition is believed to have begun following the Civil War, when families and communities decorated the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers in remembrance.

One account traces the observance to 1864 in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, where three women decorated the graves of loved ones lost during the Civil War. In 1868, General John A. Logan, Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, called for a National Day of Remembrance on May 30 for the purpose of decorating the graves of those who died in defense of our country. In 1966, Waterloo, New York, was officially recognized by Congress as the birthplace of Memorial Day observances.

Following World War I, the day evolved to honor those lost in all American wars, and the name changed from Decoration Day to Memorial Day.

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor members of our Tuttle community who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation:

🇺🇸 Stanley I. Rooker, F 3/c3 — February 18, 1942
🇺🇸 Capt. Sachse Wallace — November 24, 1942
🇺🇸 Pvt. Francis Haywood — December 29, 1942
🇺🇸 Corp. Morris J. Youngblood — April 9, 1944
🇺🇸 S. Sgt. Creighton E. Schaefer — September 9, 1944
🇺🇸 Pvt. Samuel J. Hughes — October 24, 1944
🇺🇸 Virgle R. Dalton — October 26, 1944
🇺🇸 T. Sgt. Springer B. Ferguson — November 29, 1944
🇺🇸 Pfc. Hale H. Faulconer — January 16, 1945
🇺🇸 Pvt. Melvin L. Coates — March 5, 1945
🇺🇸 Jimmie G. Kettler — March 9, 1945
🇺🇸 PFC. Ray F. Dunaway — March 15, 1945
🇺🇸 Pfc. James M. Cooley — April 19, 1945
🇺🇸 Pfc. Burl A. Thomas — August 13, 1945

We honor their sacrifice, their service, and the families who carried their memory forward.

If you have a loved one from the Tuttle area who gave their life in service to our country and would like them added to our memorial list, please share their name, rank (if available), date, and a photo if you have one. With your permission, we would also be honored to include their photograph in our Veterans Section at the museum.

May we never forget those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy today. 🇺🇸

Downtown Clock Beautification Project 🖌️

Today we did a little restoration work on our Downtown Clock as part of the beautification project. A little sanding to remove the chipping paint on the base, followed by a fresh new coat of black paint, has it looking refreshed just in time for the holidays.

We are happy to be able to assist in helping keep our downtown looking its best for the community to enjoy! ❤️

This sign once stood proudly in front of the old station on Main Street, dating back to the 1970s. It was placed there by Noble Sandlin during the years he operated the station—a familiar sight for many in our community.

While the building itself was sadly lost years ago, pieces like this help keep its memory alive.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Naomi McKinney Family for preserving this important part of Tuttle’s history and generously donating it to the museum. Because of you, future generations will be able to connect with this piece of our past.

⛽ A Piece of Tuttle History on Display!

The Tuttle Historical Society Museum is honored to showcase an original 1920s stove pipe visible gas pump—a striking piece from the early days of motoring.

Manufactured by the Rush Pump Company in Lafayette, Indiana, these pumps were produced from the 1920s through the 1940s. Known for their tall, narrow “stove pipe” design and 10-gallon glass cylinder, they allowed customers to see the gasoline they were purchasing—helping build trust in a brand-new industry.

This particular pump was used on the William Clay Hardesty farm beginning in the 1920s or 1930s. The Hardesty family has deep roots in Tuttle, dating back to around 1902, and their legacy continues to be an important part of our community story.

✨ The pump also closely resembles the original installed in 1921 by J.B. Sloan when he built the local station—making it even more meaningful to our town’s history.

🛠️ This beautiful piece was carefully refurbished by Mike Medrano of Tuttle and is now proudly on display at the museum.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Hardesty family for preserving and sharing this incredible artifact.

👏 A special thank you as well to Gator’s Electric Inc. (Jade & Jennifer McDoulett) and the Tuttle Fire Department for their help with installation.

📍 Stop by the museum to see this unique glimpse into Tuttle’s past!
