Family, since it’s the day before Thanksgiving and we’re all in that grateful, reflective space, it feels like the perfect time to introduce something we’re really excited about!

Meet the UCSB x Booker T. Washington Scholars Program , an initiative connecting Tuskegee students with opportunities that reach far beyond the classroom. Through this program, students travel to UC Santa Barbara, explore new creative and academic spaces, and learn directly from major industry voices. Recently, Tiffany Haddish came through and poured into the cohort with the kind of real, honest wisdom only she can give.

And trust us when we say: “This isn’t just a program, it’s a movement.”
A movement opening doors, expanding horizons, and making sure our students are seen, supported, and set up to shine.

Going into the holiday, we’re extra grateful for partnerships that build bridges and keep the Legacy growing.

Family, we’ve been here before! And the way we thrived during other historic seasons of challenge was by leaning on each other and investing in our own communities.
Tuskegee has always been a symbol of innovation, excellence, and progress despite whatever was happening on the outside. That’s why The Legacy Lives is on a mission to honor that legacy while building a new entertainment industry here and launching activations rooted in culture, creativity, and community-powered change.
This movement started in 2021 and we are well on our way!
We’re here to tell the stories, build the infrastructure, amplify the voices that deserve to be heard and link arms with others who are passionate about Tuskegee’s revival.

This year at Homecoming I couldn’t stop talking about The Legacy Lives and the need to revitalize Tuskegee…and I did that EVERYwhere I went! The cherry on top was an event for the new Tuskegee Renaissance Movement filled with like minded brilliant leaders, in the community and on campus, who are dedicated to Healing Mother Tuskegee! I must add - witnessing some of the students from the Booker T. Washington Scholars program share their visions and commitment for the future of Tuskegee and media made my heart soar!
One of the launching missions of The Legacy Lives is building a Film & Media Arts program at Tuskegee University. We are actively pouring into students, introducing them to top industry professionals and teaching them about the entertainment industry.
Please join us on this mission. It’s up to us to tell our own stories but that means investing into future generations!

The Legacy Lives celebrates the life of Danielle Spencer, an actress who won our hearts in the 1970s as Dee, the spicy sister of Raj on What's Happening. She left television after the series ended and graduated from Tuskegee's Veterinary school and became a Veterinarian. Thank you for the way you lit up our lives through that legendary role and thank you for giving your life in service to our precious animal kingdom. May you rest in heavenly peace.
