Kip Tyner you were so special to us. 💙 💛

The West Alabama Down Syndrome community was blessed to be invited to appear on the Great Day Tuscaloosa show many times over the years. Kip would always say it was one of his favorite shows, and he genuinely looked forward to each of our visits. Kip welcomed our children with excitement, open arms, a huge smile, hugs, and some of the most entertaining conversations and laughter. He made every child feel seen, valued, and celebrated. He complimented and praised their parents as he knew we had faced challenges and overcame obstacles along our journey. We will always remember Kip for his acceptance, encouragement, and for reminding us to Dare to Dream and Dream BIG!

As I reflected on the passing of our cherished friend, Kip Tyner,
I looked to His Word to describe the life Kip lived. There is no doubt that Kip followed the teachings of Jesus. He was the epitome of a faithful servant—not only to God, but also to the people he touched, the community he served and the way he loved us all with his whole heart.
These Scriptures remind us of how Kip lived his life:
He taught us that true greatness comes from humbling ourselves and serving others rather than seeking power or status. Jesus said He “came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” — Mark 10:45
Jesus also taught that when we help the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, or the sick, we are doing it for Him: “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” — Matthew 25:40
And we are reminded that our service should not be done for pride or recognition, but expressed “through love.” — Galatians 5:13

Kip Tyner loved the special needs community, and he was deeply loved in return. He always wanted the very best for our children and adults. He provided opportunities for them to fulfill their dreams and offered them a platform to showcase their accomplishments, abilities, and worth in our community.

Kip believed in people. He celebrated them. He encouraged them. And through his kindness and genuine love, he helped others believe in themselves.

Thank you, Kip, for simply being you—for the laughter, the hugs, the encouragement, the opportunities, and the countless lives you touched.

You leave behind a true legacy of love and service that will continue to live on in all of us who were blessed to know you.

Rest in peace, Kip. You will forever be in our hearts. ❤️

approached by a wonderful Producer/Videographer/Editor Jada Brielle Ceaser (UA Grad) and an exceptional person requesting to do a video about World Down Syndrome Day, WADS, our history, journey, friendships, bond and support we found along the way and how we celebrate our exceptional children.

WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY CELEBRATION and WEST ALABAMA DOWN SYNDROME (WADS) WHATS IT ALL ABOUT? 😊

World Down syndrome Day was created to celebrate the amazing lives and highlight the many accomplishments of people with Down syndrome. Observed each year on March 21st, this meaningful date represents the third copy of chromosome 21 — a beautiful and unique characteristic of individuals with Down syndrome.
This special day is celebrated worldwide, giving everyone an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the sociable, fun-loving personalities and incredible ability to bring joy that people with Down syndrome share with the world. Since 2012, World Down Syndrome Day has been officially recognized on the United Nations calendar, further elevating awareness and inclusion on a global scale.
For the past 12 years, West Alabama Down Syndrome (WADS)has proudly organized and hosted this celebration on March 21st, bringing together families, friends, and supporters throughout our community. This event allows us to celebrate achievements, share experiences, and collaborate on meaningful solutions to overcome challenges and create brighter futures.
West Alabama Down Syndrome (WADS) is a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the West Alabama area. Our mission is to grow our network, strengthen community connections, and ensure individuals with Down syndrome have the same freedoms and opportunities as everyone else. We are committed to fostering inclusion, promoting education and employment opportunities, and encouraging friendships and relationships that will last a lifetime.
At WADS, our goal is simple yet powerful: for every individual and family to feel welcomed, valued, and appreciated as an essential part of our community.
