Learning has been an adventure during Summer Learning! Our students have traveled across the Yellowhammer State without ever leaving the classroom—exploring Alabama’s geography, discovering famous Alabamians, visiting historic landmarks, and uncovering exciting places to see and things to do. From mountains to beaches, and the Highland Rim to the tip of East Gulf Coastal Plain, our scholars are proving that learning can be fun, engaging, and full of discovery.

Congratulations to Dannon Bedwell on being named the next principal of Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School!

The Tuscaloosa City Board of Education approved Bedwell's appointment Tuesday night. A longtime educator in the Tuscaloosa City Schools, Bedwell has served as assistant principal at MLK since 2020 and has been part of the school's leadership team during a period of significant academic growth and achievement.

Bedwell succeeds Dr. LaTanya Williams-Collins, who recently accepted an administrative position with Huntsville City Schools. We thank Dr. Collins for her outstanding leadership and dedication to the MLK school community.

"I am incredibly honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as the next principal of MLK Elementary," Bedwell said. "My goal is to build upon the great work already taking place while continuing to move the school forward."
Please join us in congratulating Mr. Bedwell on his new role!
