Breaking Ground Poets BGP is a volunteer-run organization rooted in the belief of storytelling, self-expression, and educational programming. Is it a place? A process? A declaration?

At this point, you may be asking yourself, "What does Breaking Ground mean?"

So many things. For us, it is symbolic of both action and effect. It is the ground we break before us, and the ground upon which we break ourselves open for eternity and for the moment. iscent of the first day of school meets the final round of Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed. Experience life with us and decide for yourself. We are a tribe of young people united by our love of poetry, dedicated to self-expression, self-discovery, and bridging the gaps in our community. We want impact and ripple effects. We are not taking 'no' for an answer. We are dancers, talkers, photographers, animals, patriots, listeners, royalty, lepers, and neighbors. We are the freedom fighters, the comeback kids, the entrepreneurs of words. Welcome to your reckoning - This is the Breaking Ground.

Open Mic Night – Breaking Ground Poets
Friday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. Doors open for signups at 6:30 p.m.

Admission: Free
Sponsored by: the Dietrich Fundraising Committee
Open to audiences and performers of all ages. Musicians, poets, comedians and performers of all types are invited to share their talents. Then the acclaimed Breaking Ground Poets will then take the stage. The Breaking Ground Poets is a creative outlet for teenagers ages 14 – 19 who are united by a love of poetry and dedicated to self-expression and self-discovery. Their goal is to empower youth through public speaking, emotional literacy, and creative writing. Through storytelling and positive reinforcement, the Breaking Ground Poets believe they can build a stronger generation or readers, writers, and thinkers. The organization hosts open mics, poetry slams and creative writing workshops for young people. Seating is limited. Call the Dietrich at 570-836-1022 x3 for details.

In just one week, NEPA Scene is offering local musicians, comedians, poets, and other performing artists of ALL AGES the very FIRST opportunity to perform on the massive stage of the newly renovated Ritz Theater in downtown Scranton! Sign-ups are from 6-8:30 p.m., and the show runs through midnight.
