Wonderful hosts come in all shapes, sizes, professions, and stages of life! If you have room in your home and room in your heart, hosting could be for you!

Hosting is a valuable, realistic and impactful way to create positive change in your community. Ongoing homelessness risk factors are greatly reduced for youth who are able to maintain housing and proper support throughout their high school years.

Hosts provide a spare bedroom for a local unhoused youth in Thurston County. Hosts receive support from our case managers to create a good match and ongoing relationship with the youth.

Case manager update ⭐️ Our case manager shared this update about one of our Host Homes students. This student came from a stressful home environment and has struggled to find a balance between independence and retaining family relationships. Family relationships are often one of the hardest dynamics for our students to navigate, so our case managers work hard to help them learn how to set healthy boundaries and to respect their own needs. We are so proud of this student for doing the hard work to create her best possible future. 💜

Ready to make a difference in your community? Become a host!
➡️ Hosts Homes pairs students in need of stable housing with a safe & caring adult in the Olympia-Lacey-Tumwater area who is willing to share their home.
➡️ Most youth enter the program in late high school, which is a very important time of transition. By providing safe housing, one-on-one mentorship with a case manager, and caring adult engagement, our students are better able to transition into adulthood. 100% of our youth in the class of 2024 went on to college! 👏

There are so many big challenges that young adults face as they take their first steps into adulthood. The Host Homes program is designed to help unhoused students create an actionable plan to meet those needs.

“Ivy” is a Host Homes student who is moving toward some big life changes. As a senior, her main goal is completing high school. She has been working closely with her case manager and is focusing on goals that will help ensure her independence, including getting her driver’s license, finding a job and securing housing once she graduates. We are so proud of her already and are honored to assist her in these big steps as she becomes an adult! 💛

We are thrilled to share that Host Homes in partnering AGAIN this summer with La Cima Camp, with both Host Homes staff members participating as counselors and our youth joining as campers. La Cima is a summer camp that focuses on creating community and opportunities for Latin-X youth through different activities that are both fun and applicable to their real lives. This is a part of Host Homes work to increase resources and support available to Latin-X youth.

One Host Homes participant from last summer, 11th grader Sheyla Alvarez, shared a little bit about her experience with La Cima: "I learned to trust myself more and take initiative. I discovered areas where I could improve and grow both personally and professionally. I understand that leadership isn't just about guiding, but also about listening, serving, and learning from others."

This week we are highlighting another one of our AMAZING case managers within the Host Home's program and the "why" behind her journey here. What inspires our case managers to do the wonderful work that they do with our youth? Jaiden, one of our case managers, shares that she chose this career path with the goal to be able to make a fundamental difference in the lives of others. She shared that this is one of the greatest rewards in life and, through case management, she is able to do this for a living. Our case managers are a HUGE part of the success of our students, supporting both the youth themselves and the individuals hosting them. Thank you Jaiden for everything that you d! You have made such a difference.

Did you know!? Host Homes provides support for kinship housing matches. Kinship housing refers to a youth staying with a close friend or family member, which can often serve as a more comforting or familiar environment.

Host Homes supports kinship matches in a variety of different ways including:

- Case management to support the hosting process.
- Housing and eviction prevention support.
- Food security support.
- Support navigating legal aspects of hosting.

WOW!! What an amazing weekend at Taste of the Sound.

A HUGE thank you to every single person who made this possible through hours upon hours of hard work, collaboration, and dedication, and to every person who came out to support TOGETHER! and our small business vendors these last two days.

It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces (some painted beautifully), families and friends enjoying time together and great food, and all of our amazing vendors who absolutely killed it. Through your support of Taste of the Sound, you are providing resources and support to youth in Thurston County experiencing homelessness.

Community is the answer! Thank you!
