Ruckus is a 2.5 year old Bloodhound and a country boy through and through. He wants land under his feet, room to roam, and a noseful of whatever's blowing in on the wind. What he does not want is to be fussed over. Give him acreage and a person who respects him, and he's a happy dog.

He likes the simple stuff: long walks, a yard he can patrol, and enough room to run top speed. He's house trained, knows his basics, and doesn't need a babysitter.

Here's the part his next person has to know up front: Ruckus has clear boundaries. He does not want to be touched without warning. He doesn't want to be grabbed, kissed, or picked up, and he will let you know immediately if those lines get crossed.

Ruckus is a big dawg- he is not going to turn into a snuggle baby, and the right home won't ask him to.

What he will be is a genuine friend to someone willing to meet him where he is. Treat him like a good buddy instead of a teddy bear, build things on trust, and you've got yourself a loyal, funny hound who's real good company.

Ruckus needs an experienced adopter who understands and respects a dog with a bite history. He needs somewhere with land, freedom, and a securely fenced yard. This country boy is not asking for much- just space, freedom, and somebody who gets it.

"Did we just become homeless?"
Brennan and Dale need fosters tonight.

These two beagle mix puppies are about ten pounds each and named after the worst stepbrothers in film history. They'll either be best friends or wreck the house- probably both.

The problem: they need somewhere to be STARTING TONIGHT, and right now that place does not exist. We're looking for temporary foster homes to take them until they're adopted- could be a few days, could be a couple weeks. We just need two safe couches, fast.

We cover everything- food, supplies, all vet care. You bring a couch and a tolerance for nonsense. They're babies, so yes, housebreaking is part of the package. Think of it as building character. (Yours.)

No bunk beds required, and no, they don't have to go together- we're splitting these two up like the responsible adults their namesakes never were.

Couper is a seven month Beagle who has fully figured out the good life. Hand him his toys and some attention and he's a deeply content pup- happy to play, happier to cuddle, and is determined to communicate with the birds and squirrels he can see through the window but cannot reach. He has a lot to say to them. They do not listen.

He's (mostly) housebroken, responds fast to "no" and "uh-uh," and will settle on his own and entertain himself while you get on with your day. Leave him alone for an hour and you'll come back to an intact house and an unbothered puppy. The shoe-chewing reputation that preceded him turns out to be a stress thing, not a hobby, and a settled, happy Couper has no interest in your footwear.

He's also a lot smarter than people give him credit for. He was written off as a dog who'd only work for treats- a theory he has disproven, performing happily for nothing but praise and an empty hand. He learns quick and he wants to get it right.

He's made fast friends with the resident foster dog, and the two of them have reached a firm mutual agreement that everything is playtime. Couper would do best in an active home with another dog to match his energy. You bring the toys, he'll bring the enthusiasm!

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, meet Thunder.

Thunder came to us labeled "beagle." His paperwork says beagle. His vet wrote down beagle. We have been calling him a beagle this whole time.

We do not think Thunder is a beagle- at least not entirely.

The evidence:

Exhibit A- the coat. Thunder is tricolor but has this mottled gray pattern across his back that is very off-standard for a beagle. Almost looks like merle in the right light.

Exhibit B- the muzzle. It's longer and a little more tapered than a beagle's. He's got more of a serious-scenthound snout than a round little beagle face.

Exhibit C- the legs. They're long. He's leaner and taller than many beagles, and at 30 lbs he kind of looks like somebody took a beagle and stretched him out.

Exhibit D- the resume. His prey drive is a lot for a beagle. This is not a dog who casually sniffs around the yard. He has a body count and he takes the work seriously.

Exhibit E- the ears. Still floppy, still houndy- but not quite beagle. They sit a little higher on his head and don't have that heavy, low droop a beagle's ears are known for.

Exhibit F- the heart shape patch of fur. Not relevant for a breed guess but it's so dang cute.

We've sent Thunder's DNA off to Wisdom Panel (thanks to a generous donor) and the swab is being processed at the lab as we speak. A verdict is coming any day now.

Before the results come in, we want to hear from you. How do you find the defendant?

UPDATE ON BAILEY 🎉

Some of you have been following Bailey's story since he got hit by a car last month.

Here's the recap: Bailey was brought into the shelter with a fractured leg and broken ribs. They put a splint on his leg and returned him to his family and Bailey's mom reached out to us and asked if we could take him in.

We accepted the application, started lining up a foster and a vet, and treated it like any other owner surrender.

We didn't realize, at first, that this wasn't really what Bailey's mom wanted at all- and that reaching out to us was the hardest call a person who loves their dog can make.

It wasn't until we actually talked to her that the full picture came into focus. This wasn't just a person giving up on a hurt dog. This was a sweet mom with a newborn baby and a single income who was already stretched thin from the initial emergency vet bills. A mom who'd been told at the vet that if she couldn't pay for his care, her best options were to find him a new home or return him to the shelter, and she chose the option that still gave him his best shot- even if it meant losing him.

That changed everything for us. We decided he should stay right where he's already obviously happy and so so loved, and we started looking into what his care would take. Estimates weren't cheap- surgical repair with a plate is around $2,500, an amputation is closer to $1,500. We were ready to help cover either one.

Yesterday brought the best news yet- a different vet took a fresh look at his leg, and the outlook is so much better than anyone expected. With consistent care, that fracture has a real shot at healing on its own. Right now that means weekly cast changes for about six weeks and a follow-up x-ray to confirm he's fully healed- though with a fracture like his, we'll know more as we go.

Whatever Bailey ends up needing between now and the day he's fully healed, we're committed to covering it so his mama never has to face that impossible choice again.

Tobey's foster texted today and honestly just wrote the post for us:

Tobey is very sweet and gentle. He has a hand signal for sit and he sits down consistently. He also exercises on demand, when I bend down and slap my thighs near my knees, to him it's like a signal to run around the yard with the zoomies.

He is also a very serious birdwatcher, he sits in the yard and seems so mesmerized by birds. He loves toys, and really prefers being near people. He is very content lounging around the yard or the house as long as we are in sight.

He's been thrown in with three senior beagles, who are set in their ways in personalities, and he does read the room well!

He is very tall and needs exercise, kind of reminds me of part gazelle, part leapfrog, but he seems to calm quickly, especially for his age.

This is our hound hauler map. We're a little obsessed with it and we'd love to grow it.

Let's start in Oklahoma.
We're have a bunch of tremendously helpful dots around OKC and Tulsa, but look at the rest of the state- whole corners where we don't have a single contact. This means when a dog needs to get to or from any of these other areas, we're stuck. If you live out that way with a car and a free couple hours now and then, it would help more than you'd think! AND one of these dots on our very cool map could be you!!

Now zoom out.
Same story, bigger scale. We've got adopted dogs in nearly every state and subsequently a volunteer network that's rock solid in some places, but held together with hope in others. You could be the thing that's even better than hope- a very exciting dot on our amazing map!!

Our dream is to set up a run to anywhere, one driver at a time- each person covering just the stretch that fits their schedule. Enough yeses, and we get a dog clear across the map.

Our other dream is to sometimes just be able to ask a volunteer to pick up a dog from the vet and drive him or her across town. Not every request is a nationwide transport miracle we're trying to pull off, but ALL of helps the dogs.

A couple things to be clear about:
We'll pay for gas! Already headed that way? You get reimbursed AND a furry copilot. Weren't headed anywhere yet? Even better- let us cover the gas, take the scenic route, go find something fun once you've dropped your passenger off.

It's a pretty low pressure commitment. You agree to whatever are able to do within your schedule, your comfort level, your mood that day. It's your call every time. Only free weekends? Only want the short hops near home? Perfect. Not feeling like getting out of bed that day? "Not this time" is just fine!

Billy Bob has a question and he's a little embarrassed to ask it but here we are.

Are you going to adopt him or not? Because he's been very patient. He just turned a year old, he's got his speckles, his paintbrush tail, his lip stuck on his teeth, and his whole little life ready to go. He knows shake. He'll show you his best sit. He's house trained. He gets along with other dogs and greets strangers like he's genuinely happy to see them, which he is, because Billy Bob is just like that.

He's sorry to put you on the spot but he would really like an answer please.
