For excellently representing two parents who reside outside the United States. Leah and Luwana provided high-quality legal representation in this complicated case and maintained communication with their clients living in another country. Leah and Luwana were successful at the TPR jury trial. The parents’ rights were NOT terminated. The judge then ordered that the child be returned to the country of origin for placement with maternal grandparents. They all did fantastic on this case!

The Oklahoma Office of Family Representation honored their own this week at the CIP conference. Parent and Children’s attorneys are hardly ever recognized nor celebrated for the very hard work they do representing separated families! Congratulations to every OFR attorney, social worker and mentor! We recognized 34 folks during our inaugural awards dinner for their hard work and dedication!

To the staff of OFR, you are the backbone building the support for the attorneys, social workers and mentors. You inspire me! Thank you for dreaming about a day when we could honor the folks who work very hard for our Oklahoma families! Thank you for making that day come true! You are truly the BEST team to work with! ❤️

Thank you to our sponsors, Ryan O’Donnell with Sunlight and the OBA Juvenile Law Section as well as our photographer Seann Adair Creative!

Daniel embodies the spirit of OFR in that he is a zealous advocate and a skilled litigator, but also someone who never stops learning. He is constantly looking for ways to better serve his clients. This year, we are proud to present the Overall Interdisciplinary Team Member of the Year to Kimberly Welch.

Ensuring the full strength of our interdisciplinary model reaches every single family takes relentless dedication on the ground. Kimberly has stepped up as the social worker, taking on every single case in Region 4.

She works tirelessly behind the scenes to coordinate directly with our parent and youth mentors, bridging support and peer advocacy across our entire area. By anchoring our casework and supporting our attorneys and mentors day in and day out, Kimberly ensures we deliver our model with total fidelity and that our teams have the hands-on support they need to succeed.

We are proud to recognize Mallory Tecmire as the recipient of the OFR Social Worker of the Year Award.

Mallory exemplifies the very best of social work practice. She approaches families with compassion, curiosity, and respect, meeting clients where they are, recognizing their strengths, and ensuring their voices, goals, and lived experiences remain at the center of the work.

Through her exceptional dedication, strengths-based practice, and unwavering commitment to client self-determination, Mallory has not only strengthened the quality of interdisciplinary legal advocacy provided to families, but has demonstrated what it means to be an ethical, compassionate, and fiercely client-centered social worker.

Mallory understands that meaningful advocacy is not about doing for clients, but working with them. She builds authentic relationships, helps families navigate complex systems without judgment, and brings a social work perspective to the interdisciplinary team that challenges assumptions, identifies strengths and barriers, and keeps the whole person, not simply the case, in focus.

Mallory, thank you for demonstrating every day what social work within interdisciplinary legal advocacy can and should be.

We recognize Constance Bear for the Parent Mentor of the Year Award. Constance brings a unique combination of compassion, patience, and quiet strength to her work with families. Her calming personality helps clients feel heard and supported, while her boldness allows her to advocate when a family's needs require a stronger voice. She is intentional in her communication, providing meaningful information and guidance that help clients make informed decisions and strengthen the work of the entire IDT.

Constance consistently goes the extra mile to identify resources and opportunities that address client needs and support case progress. Her growth in understanding and applying the interdisciplinary team approach has enhanced her effectiveness as a mentor and strengthened the collaboration between parents, attorneys, and social workers.

Constance does more than support parents through their cases; she helps equip them to become active, informed participants in their own journey toward positive outcomes.
