We’ve been building something special at The DriveAble Foundation, and I’m excited to share where we are. We just applied to the Awesome Foundation for a grant that would officially launch us as a 501c3 nonprofit. This is huge because it unlocks everything we’re trying to do.
Here’s the thing: millions of people with low vision can work and contribute to society. But they can’t drive safely, and they don’t qualify for disability services. Many live in rural areas with no public transportation. They’re stuck. We’re changing that.
We’ve already partnered with Uber Health. We’re working with Oklahoma’s Department of Rehabilitation Services. We’ve built our website, launched social media, recruited our first board member, and started conversations with Tesla, Waymo, and Lyft about making their platforms accessible for people with low vision.
This grant would get us officially recognized so we can start booking rides for people who need them and expand to autonomous vehicles in rural communities.
If this mission speaks to you, share this post. Help us spread the word.
