What a weekend!
A few weekends ago, Tucson Spellers and Teva Community came together for an unforgettable Art Camp led by the incredible Matthew and Amy Palmo of Indicator Art. It was a weekend filled with creativity, connection, friendship, regulation, and joy.
Amy guided us through moments of relaxation and regulation that created space for everyone to settle into themselves and fully engage in the experience. Throughout the weekend, spellers created breathtaking works of art, each one reflecting a unique voice, perspective, and style. Local artists generously joined us for professional art critiques, offering thoughtful feedback and encouragement that helped every artist feel seen and valued.
Rithik shared that Matthew is "awesome at encouraging and gently guiding his students to believe in themselves and find their own style." We saw that firsthand all weekend long. Matthew's ability to inspire confidence while honoring each artist's individuality created an environment where creativity could truly flourish.
Ashton summed up the weekend beautifully: "Living the dream today and my heart is pleased. Really very happy seeing spellers finally getting the attention they deserve."
Perhaps one of the most touching moments came during the final critique when Niko reflected on Ashton's artwork, saying, "I feel your gentle spirit as a breeze through our lives."
Those words captured the spirit of the entire weekend. Art became more than paint on canvas. It became communication. It became connection. It became community.
Thank you to Matthew and Amy Palmo, TEVA Community, our volunteer artists and critics, our families, CRPs, and most importantly our spellers, whose creativity continues to challenge assumptions and inspire us all. Our heart is full. ππ¨π΅
