Building Bridges 2026 starts by listening to the people at the heart of our mission. 🌵

The Tucson Spellers Speller Advisory Committee will open the conference by sharing their perspectives on communication, education, friendship, advocacy, and what becomes possible when we presume competence.

Tickets are only $35, and nonspeaking and unreliably speaking attendees are FREE!

Families, supporters, educators, therapists, and the medical community are ALL welcome. Whether you’re new to this conversation or already part of the community, there is something here for you.

🎨 CALLING ALL NONSPEAKING ARTISTS! 🎨

Tucson Spellers wants to showcase YOUR creativity at the Speller Showcase during the Building Bridges Conference Lunch Hour! 💛

We’re inviting nonspeaking artists of all kinds to submit artwork to be displayed and celebrated during the conference.

Your submission can be anything creative, including:
🎨 Paintings
✏️ Drawings
📝 Poetry
📖 Creative writing
🎵 Songs
🗿 Sculptures
✨ And anything else you’d like to share!

Submission limits:
• Up to 2 physical art pieces
• Up to 2 audio submissions

For poetry & creative writing:
Please submit a HARD COPY—we cannot accept digital files. Print your work exactly how you would like it displayed! You can use cardstock, colorful paper, plain paper, a frame, or anything else that represents your work.

📅 Submissions are due by the end of the day on Friday, September 4th.

📍 Please give all physical artwork to Anna Britton or Courtney Cameron.

FREE S2C Sessions Available: Phoenix, Arizona
Monday, September 14th - Friday, September 18th, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm each day

I-ASC will be conducting an Internship Outreach for S2C Practitioners in Training under the supervision and mentorship of Elizabeth Vosseller, founder of S2C and Executive Director of I-ASC. Interns will offer FREE S2C sessions to complete their training. This ensures that all Practitioners have experience with a wide range of spellers and demonstrate best practices.

Each session is in person in Phoenix, AZ, and is 30 minutes long.

🌵 New Tucson Spellers Program 🌵

We are excited to announce that our Communication and Regulation Partner (CRP) Support and Skill Building Workshop will begin on Friday, September 11!

Led by S2C Practitioners Jade Munsey and Courtney Cameron, this workshop will provide guided coaching, hands on practice, and direct feedback to help spellers and their CRPs strengthen communication, regulation, and co-regulation skills.

Workshop details:

📅 Every other Friday beginning September 11
⏰ 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
📍 Liberty Center for Language and Learning
💚 Free for Tucson Spellers families
👥 Limited to four spellers and their CRPs

Each speller must attend with a non parental CRP and bring their own letterboards. A limited number of loaner boards will be available.

Registration will initially be open to first time only through August 28th. After that date, any remaining spaces will be opened to all Tucson Spellers families.

Some of the most important voices at the Building Bridges Conference will come from those with lived experience.

🌵 Ethan and Grace are taking the stage.

In The Unspeaking Voices: Two Spellers Share Their Experiences, these two nonspeaking spellers will share their own perspectives, experiences, and messages with our community.

🌵Grace: Being Gracious to Spellers
Grace will share her journey to finding her voice through spelling, what it is like to live with motor differences, why movement matters, and what she wants others to understand about supporting and presuming competence in spellers.

🌵Ethan: Speaking Directly to Nonspeakers
Ethan will bring a message directly to nonspeakers from someone who understands the experience himself, including the isolation that can come when others assume that being nonspeaking means not understanding.

✨ And you’ll have the opportunity to hear directly from Ethan and Grace as they answer questions from the audience.

This is exactly why we created Building Bridges. Not simply to talk about nonspeaking individuals, but to create space for nonspeaking people to share their experiences, perspectives, and wisdom themselves.

What an incredible weekend at the 10th Annual Motormorphosis Conference! 💚 International Association for Spelling as Communication

Tucson Spellers was well represented this year with both Courtney Cameron and Anna Britton attending, along with two of our Board of Directors, Kade Bandhagen and Elizabeth Vosseller . It was a weekend filled with learning, collaboration, and meaningful connections with practitioners, communication partners, families, and, most importantly, expert spellers from across the country.

A special congratulations to Anna Britton for presenting during the conference. We are so proud of the knowledge, passion, and perspective she shared. It was wonderful to see Tucson Spellers represented on the national stage.

As always, the most impactful learning came directly from nonspeaking individuals sharing their own experiences, insights, and expertise. Every conversation reinforced why presuming competence and providing access to reliable communication are so important.

We returned home with new ideas, new friendships, stronger professional connections, and renewed excitement for the future of our community.
