What a weekend!

A few weekends ago, Tucson Spellers and Teva Community came together for an unforgettable Art Camp led by the incredible Matthew and Amy Palmo of Indicator Art. It was a weekend filled with creativity, connection, friendship, regulation, and joy.

Amy guided us through moments of relaxation and regulation that created space for everyone to settle into themselves and fully engage in the experience. Throughout the weekend, spellers created breathtaking works of art, each one reflecting a unique voice, perspective, and style. Local artists generously joined us for professional art critiques, offering thoughtful feedback and encouragement that helped every artist feel seen and valued.

Rithik shared that Matthew is "awesome at encouraging and gently guiding his students to believe in themselves and find their own style." We saw that firsthand all weekend long. Matthew's ability to inspire confidence while honoring each artist's individuality created an environment where creativity could truly flourish.

Ashton summed up the weekend beautifully: "Living the dream today and my heart is pleased. Really very happy seeing spellers finally getting the attention they deserve."

Perhaps one of the most touching moments came during the final critique when Niko reflected on Ashton's artwork, saying, "I feel your gentle spirit as a breeze through our lives."

Those words captured the spirit of the entire weekend. Art became more than paint on canvas. It became communication. It became connection. It became community.

Thank you to Matthew and Amy Palmo, TEVA Community, our volunteer artists and critics, our families, CRPs, and most importantly our spellers, whose creativity continues to challenge assumptions and inspire us all. Our heart is full. πŸ’šπŸŽ¨πŸŒ΅

We’re inviting mission-aligned community partners to be part of the Tucson Spellers Building Bridges Conference 2026!

This special event will bring together families, nonspeaking individuals, educators, therapists, providers, advocates, and community organizations for a day focused on rethinking apraxia, movement, and communication.

A limited number of community partner tables will be available, and this will be a curated opportunity to ensure the organizations represented are truly aligned with the needs of Spellers and their families.

If your school, clinic, therapy practice, support service, nonprofit, or organization serves nonspeaking individuals and families in Arizona, we’d love to hear from you.

Interested in being considered? Please message the Tucson Spellers page and tell us a little about your organization.

Together, we can build bridges of understanding, access, communication, and community.

πŸŒ΅πŸ’š Please take a moment to listen to the final 6 minutes and 10 seconds of this beautiful Arizona Spotlight piece featuring Tucson Spellers and the Autism Society of Southern Arizona. Hearing our community, our spellers, and the message of presumed competence represented on public radio was incredibly meaningful.

We are deeply grateful to the Autism Society of Southern Arizona for the continued support, advocacy, and opportunities they create for autistic individuals and families throughout Southern Arizona. We are also thankful to AZPM and reporter Sarah Arellano for helping share these important stories and voices with the broader community.

This piece highlights something we witness every single day: non speakers have rich thoughts, perspectives, humor, intelligence, and so much to contribute when given meaningful access to communication.

To our spellers, families, CRPs, and community members, thank you for continuing to show what is possible πŸ’šπŸŒ΅

✨ Friday evening was something SO special! ✨

We celebrated the release of the Tucson Spellers Poetry Anthology at Las Milpitas Community Farm, surrounded by beautiful weather, a beautiful setting, and an even more beautiful community.

Local spellers had their poetry and creative writing shared aloud, displayed their original artwork, and even brought some of their original songs into the evening. There was laughter, there were tears, and so many meaningful moments of connection in between.

This gathering was a beautiful, communal, and supportive celebration of something so many people worked incredibly hard to create. Moments like this are why Tucson Spellers exists 🌡 Thank you to everyone who showed up, supported, created, and made the night what it was πŸ’š

Last night, Tucson Spellers community members had the chance to attend a showing of The Reason I Jump atThe Loft Cinema (), and it was such a meaningful evening. Getting to watch this film together, surrounded by community, felt really special. πŸ’š

Ahead of the film, we got a chance to hear from Dani Bowman (from Netflix's Love on the Spectrum) and John Elder Robison John Elder Robison (autism advocate and author of Look Me in the Eye) during a sincere and impactful Q&A. 🎀

John and Dani spoke in front of a full audience here in Tucson, using that space to advocate for nonspeaking individuals and the importance of inclusion, understanding, and access to communication. John's fierce and energetic advocacy for the nonspeaking and spelling communities, both here in Tucson and all over the world, was nothing short of inspiring ✨

We also want to give a special shoutout to Niko Tax, one of our Speller Advisory Committee members, who met with John and Dani before the event for a conversation. Letter by letter, Niko shared about his experiences and our community, and he represented Tucson Spellers with incredible insight and intention 🌡

We left this special evening feeling grateful, inspired and moved to tears. Thank you to for hosting this amazing event!

πŸ¦–πŸ’š Tucson Spellers at Dino Day and Walk πŸ’šπŸ¦–

What a wonderful day at the All in for Autism: Dino Day and Walk. It was so meaningful to see so many of you come out to connect, support, and be part of this incredible community event.

Our Tucson Spellers table stayed busy the entire time, and we loved having the opportunity to share more about spelling as a pathway to communication. Events like this truly matter. They create space for awareness, connection, and continued growth in how our community understands and supports nonspeaking individuals.

We are proud to show up alongside organizations doing important work across Southern Arizona, and especially grateful to Autism Society of Southern Arizona for hosting such a well organized and impactful event.

An extra special thank you to Kate Elliot for always believing in us and in this work. Your support continues to make a difference.

We are already looking forward to next year πŸ’š
