Team Hoyt Arizona Team Hoyt Arizona is a volunteer organization in Southern Arizona. It honors us that Dick and Rick Hoyt granted us permission to use their name for our charity.

HOW IT STARTED
Team Hoyt Arizona takes its name from the legendary father-son team of Dick and Rick Hoyt. We are only one of seven Team Hoyt organizations in the world. TEAM LUCAS
Lucas King, the son of Steve and Denise King, was born in Tucson in 2007. Life is not simple for Lucas, and he was born with cerebral palsy. Lucas’ parents are both athletes, and Lucas loves participating in sports. Bask

etball, football, baseball, running, cycling – he loves it all! The rougher, the better! When Lucas was little, Steve would run with Lucas in the stroller. Lucas loved it, and when they hit bumps he would crack up laughing. They became very involved in the wheelchair athletics community. Steve and Denise had an inspiring story with a powerful message. “Why can’t Lucas take part in this activity?” They became nonprofit activists and devoted enormous energy to community inclusion. Steve and Denise began rallying other volunteers behind the cause of inclusion. They were inspiring people to action. It was time to get organized! FOUNDING TEAM HOYT ARIZONA
A new nonprofit organization with its own all-inclusive community was emerging. The Kings had become friends with their heroes Rick and Dick Hoyt. When they spoke about their organization with them, Mr. Hoyt offered the use of his name. This was a true honor for our organization because of what he and Rick had started. Steve and Denise put together a Board of Directors and in March, 2016 founded Team Hoyt Arizona. . We’ve already rocked races in Arizona, California, and Massachusetts! Our calendar will be packed for next year’s season.

RACE SEASON WARNING: TEAM HANNAH HAS ENTERED THE CHAT.

Apparently, Team Hannah looked at the race calendar and decided, “Why wait?”

While the rest of Team Hoyt Arizona is busy getting chairs tuned up, tires checked, and race-day snacks secured, Team Hannah was already out there putting in work!

They represented Team Hoyt Arizona at the Breeze in the Trees 5K and basically decided to give everyone else a little preview of what’s coming this season.

Consider this your official warning:
The chairs are rolling. The athletes are ready. And apparently, Team Hannah has zero interest in waiting for the starting gun.

Race season 2026–27… you’ve been warned.

Our athletes are getting their racing chairs tuned up, the tires are getting pumped, our runners are pretending they're excited about hill training, and somehow every chair is about to become approximately 37% faster thanks to fresh air and race-day excitement.

Season finale: done
The athletes showed up.
The volunteers showed up.
The finish line showed up.
And once again, TMC Meet Me Downtown delivered the perfect ending to another incredible season.
Thank you to Run Tucson, Southern Arizona Roadrunners, our med students, and every volunteer who helped make inclusion more than just a word….it became an experience.
Now excuse us while we spend the off-season recovering from all those finish-line celebrations.

And just like that… another race season is in the books!
Hannah, Lucas, Rylan, Charlotte, Luke, and Cooper closed out the season in the best way possible celebrating at the TMC Meet Me Downtown with our friends at Run Tucson!
This race is our favorite season finale. Great people, great energy, and a reminder of why we love being part of Tucson’s running community.
A huge THANK YOU to Run Tucson and the Southern Arizona Roadrunners for a season full of inclusion. Every start line, every finish line, and every race in between, you made our athletes feel welcomed, valued, and celebrated.
And to our amazing medical students and every volunteer who came out to run, walk, cheer, encourage, and make memories alongside our athletes you are all AMAZING.

We're hanging up the racing shoes (for a little while), collecting our medals and race shirts…. We are already counting down the days until next season!
