Team Hoyt Arizona Team Hoyt Arizona is a volunteer organization in Southern Arizona. It honors us that Dick and Rick Hoyt granted us permission to use their name for our charity.

HOW IT STARTED
Team Hoyt Arizona takes its name from the legendary father-son team of Dick and Rick Hoyt. We are only one of seven Team Hoyt organizations in the world. TEAM LUCAS
Lucas King, the son of Steve and Denise King, was born in Tucson in 2007. Life is not simple for Lucas, and he was born with cerebral palsy. Lucas’ parents are both athletes, and Lucas loves participating in sports. Basketball, football, baseball, running, cycling – he loves it all! The rougher, the better! When Lucas was little, Steve would run with Lucas in the stroller. Lucas loved it, and when they hit bumps he would crack up laughing. They became very involved in the wheelchair athletics community. Steve and Denise had an inspiring story with a powerful message. “Why can’t Lucas take part in this activity?” They became nonprofit activists and devoted enormous energy to community inclusion. Steve and Denise began rallying other volunteers behind the cause of inclusion. They were inspiring people to action. It was time to get organized! FOUNDING TEAM HOYT ARIZONA
A new nonprofit organization with its own all-inclusive community was emerging. The Kings had become friends with their heroes Rick and Dick Hoyt. When they spoke about their organization with them, Mr. Hoyt offered the use of his name. This was a true honor for our organization because of what he and Rick had started. Steve and Denise put together a Board of Directors and in March, 2016 founded Team Hoyt Arizona. . We’ve already rocked races in Arizona, California, and Massachusetts! Our calendar will be packed for next year’s season.

Today was the Jim Click Run & Roll, benefiting the University of Arizona Adaptive Athletics, and you know THAZ wasn’t about to miss one of our favorite races!
Teams Gracie, Charlotte, Lucas, Nico, Luke, Cooper, Hannah, Addy and Rose rolled in ready to represent Team Hoyt Arizona in the 5K, along with our favorite med students lending their legs, muscle and time.
And just when we thought the morning couldn’t get any better, we even got a hello from the man himself, Mr. Click! Pretty sure that officially makes us fancy.
Huge thanks to the Southern Arizona Roadrunners for always welcoming our athletes, making room on the course, and reminding everyone that there’s more than one way to cross a finish line.
Another race, another pile of smiles, wheels, miles and memories.
THAZ came. THAZ rolled. THAZ conquered.

WELL… IT’S OFFICIAL. WE’RE ROLLING!
Today was the OFFICIAL start of the 2026–27 Team Hoyt Arizona race season, and our athletes clearly decided that easing into the season was overrated.
Hannah, Lucas, Rafael, Addy and Nico took on the 5K, while Luke looked at those rolling hills of the 10K and apparently thought, “Yep. That sounds like a good time.”
The chairs are officially out of storage, the athletes are ready, and our volunteers have once again accepted the questionable decision to spend their weekends pushing us around.
A HUGE shoutout to our friends at Run Tucson for throwing such a fun race and helping us kick off another season of miles, and smiles!
Special shoutout to our lead volunteer Katie, who somehow managed to keep all our volunteers where they were supposed to be AND make sure everyone had their bib numbers ready. Honestly, we’re not sure if that makes her a volunteer or a race-day miracle worker.
And of course, THANK YOU to our incredible UofA Med Student volunteers! You have ridiculously busy schedules, yet you continue to show up and give your time, energy, and legs to run with us. We appreciate you more than you know!
Race season is officially rolling and we have a whole lot more miles, hills, laughs and chair shenanigans ahead.

Race season has officially entered the chat!

Team Rafael decided they weren’t interested in waiting around and got an EARLY start, representing Team Hoyt Arizona at the TMC Saguaro National Park Labor Day 5K!

Who DOESN’T want to run the Tucson 10K in ONE WEEK?!

Especially when you get to push the coolest athletes around!

Seven days, people. SEVEN!!!!!
Time to dust off the running shoes, prep the race chairs, and pretend we’ve been training this whole time.

Race season is officially almost HERE!

Let’s do this, Team Hoyt Arizona!
