Team Hoyt Arizona

Team Hoyt Arizona Team Hoyt Arizona is a nonprofit volunteer organization in Southern Arizona. We are only one of seven Team Hoyt organizations in the world.

HOW IT STARTED
Team Hoyt Arizona takes its name from the legendary father-son team of Dick and Rick Hoyt. It honors us that Dick and Rick Hoyt granted us permission to use their name for our charity. TEAM LUCAS
Lucas King, the son of Steve and Denise King, was born in Tucson in 2007. Life is not simple for Lucas, and he was born with cerebral palsy. Lucas’ parents are both athletes, and Lucas love

s participating in sports. Basketball, football, baseball, running, cycling – he loves it all! The rougher, the better! When Lucas was little, Steve would run with Lucas in the stroller. Lucas loved it, and when they hit bumps he would crack up laughing. They became very involved in the wheelchair athletics community. Steve and Denise had an inspiring story with a powerful message. “Why can’t Lucas take part in this activity?” They became nonprofit activists and devoted enormous energy to community inclusion. Steve and Denise began rallying other volunteers behind the cause of inclusion. They were inspiring people to action. It was time to get organized! FOUNDING TEAM HOYT ARIZONA
A new nonprofit organization with its own all-inclusive community was emerging. The Kings had become friends with their heroes Rick and Dick Hoyt. When they spoke about their organization with them, Mr. Hoyt offered the use of his name. This was a true honor for our organization because of what he and Rick had started. Steve and Denise put together a Board of Directors and in March, 2016 founded Team Hoyt Arizona. The IRS determined our 501 (c) (3) nonprofit to be a qualified public charity and granted us tax exempt status. We’ve already rocked races in Arizona, California, and Massachusetts! Our calendar will be packed for next year’s season.

Cinco de Mayo 5K with some of our closest 800 friends. Overcast day which was awesome in tackling the hills out west by Cholla HS. Forgot my phone in the car but managed to grab a couple photos in line waiting for post race breakfast burritos. Ethan charged 3.1 miles on foot and Hannah and Lucas lead the way rolling to the finish line.

Team Kate showed up, got soaked, and still finished strong at the Carlsbad 5000, representing Team Hoyt Arizona alongside our friends from Team Hoyt San Diego… because nothing says “great race day” like ocean views and rain in your face

Our crew had the luck of the Irish on their side today!
Dalton, Cooper, Addy, Rylan, Hannah, Kate, and Rose showed up ready to shamROCK the Desert Leprechaun 5K and they absolutely ran their kilts off! From speedy sprints to golden-mile smiles, this crew chased the rainbow and found their pot of PRs at the finish line.
A huge THANK YOU to our ever-faithful med students who always step up to keep our athletes safe, supported, and smiling, you’re worth more than a pot of gold!
And a big Irish cheer to our friend Steve O. and the Southern Arizona Roadrunners for always including our athletes and making these races so special. We’re so lucky to run with you!

Hills were climbed, miles were crushed, and PRs were earned today at the Arizona Distance Classic put on by one of our favorites, Run Tucson!
Our athlete Luke showed up early, laced up, and took on the half marathon hills like a champ… and Team Luke came away with a PR! Nothing like a little elevation to make a personal record feel even sweeter.
Meanwhile, Team Kate tackled the quarter marathon and crossed the finish line exactly the way we love to see it……with big smiles and even bigger joy. That’s what it’s all about!
Huge shoutout to Randy and the crew at Run Tucson for putting on another fantastic race, and to the Southern Arizona Roadrunners for always making our athletes feel so welcome out on the course.
Great racing today, Luke and Kate, we’re proud of you!
