Green Blades Garden Club, Tryon, NC The Green Blades Garden Club was organized in 1952 and federated in 1958 with National Garden Clubs, Inc. and The Garden Club of North Carolina, Inc.

We're a philanthropic and educational organization for the encouragement and development of gardening, conservation, and beautification for the community and the individual. Active membership involves making a personal commitment to support the club through participation in club projects and monthly meetings. Our meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month from September through May. Our

meeting speakers range from gardening, conservation, birds and so many more interesting areas. Green Blades supports many projects including the maintenance and continued development of "Park on Trade" in Tryon. This beautiful pocket park as you enter Tryon was created by club members for the community to enjoy. We share our talents with the community as we decorate the Hospice House in Landrum at Christmas along with Tryon Fine Arts Center. We join others in other projects including the Polk County Foster Children's Christmas and Tryon's Halloween stroll with beautiful "witches" in our "Park on Trade" handing out candy. In 2022, the club gave 2 scholarships, one to a Polk County High School senior and one to a Landrum High School senior who will be pursing either agricultural or environmental studies. Current membership includes 23 Active Members, 3 Associate Members, and 5 Sustaining Members. Our club flower is the Iris, and our club colors are yellow and purple. The Green Blades Garden Club is honoring the memory of Judy Warden with a spring planting at the Park on Trade in Tryon.
A devoted member for many years, Judy was known for her love of gardening and her commitment to beautifying the community. In tribute, club members have planted vibrant seasonal flowers that reflect her passion and generous spirit. She found joy in planting and sharing that joy with others.
The community is invited to visit the Park on Trade and enjoy the blooms, a living tribute to a life well lived.

Our President, Vivian Cheek, and her elves delivered a beautiful centerpiece and small arrangements for each patient's room to Advent Health Polk hospital in Columbus NC. The Green Blades Garden Club met in Mary & Jim Snoddy's barn to make small arrangements with fresh greens to spread holiday cheer to patients of AdventHealth Polk (formerly St. Luke's Hospital) in Columbus NC. These will be distributed to each patients' room. A big thank you to Mary and Jim and all who helped to make the season a little brighter for others!

Green Blades Garden Club of Tryon is please to award the club's horticulture scholarship to Ariana Wood from Saluda. This is the club's fourth year to offer financial aid. Vard Henry and Janet Glancy, chairmen of the Scholarship Committee, said: "There very strong candidates but, Ariana's passion for soil science and her stellar transcript made our decision easy".
She will be attending Oregon State University. Congratulations to Ariana and Chauncey Barber, who leads Polk County High School's strong horticultural program.

The Green Blades Garden Club enjoyed a beautiful day at the San Felipe Sheep Farm in Polk County. The sheep were adorable and everyone enjoyed hearing about the different gardening techniques. A unique tour for sure.
