Thank you to all who came out to support the Foundation this past Saturday night at Diamond on Seneca. A special thanks to Sara Abernethy and her staff who delivered on a lovely dinner and another spectacular sunset! And thanks again to Forge Cellars; the Trumansburg art teachers Ellen Pennock, Cristin Johnson, and Sara Apker; Hillary Gifford, our featured local artist; our Emcee for the night, Keith Hannon; and the entire Foundation board, most especially Casey Keller, who organized the event!

We would like to welcome new board members! Do you have a few hours every month that you could devote to our organization? We have a one-hour meeting via zoom once a month, and then board members contribute by helping TEF award grants to teachers and students, plan and execute an annual fundraising dinner, help the PTO plan and execute the May Day 5K, take notes at our meetings, and manage our social media presence and website, etc. You don't need any experience! But we need you! Please DM us if you are interested!

Congratualations to Amalie White, our other 2026 recipient of the Foundation's Community Impact Scholarship! Amalie received $1000 for her commitment to service at school and her community at large. Amalie will attend St. John Fisher University as a Service Scholar, and will be enrolled in the undergraduate inclusive childhood education program which will give her dual certification in general education and special education. As a Service Scholar, she will complete a set amount of hours of community service per semester while taking classes that promote leadership and community engagement. Congratulations to our 2026 Betty McKnight Award recipient, High School Global 10 teacher, Jaclyn Lavine! Jaclyn is a leader in growing the Seal of Civic Readiness program in the district, increasing the number of Trumansburg students pursuing this state recognition for leadership and civic engagement. This program not only requires students to demonstrate knowledge of civic engagement, but it requires students to actively identify community needs and create action projects to address them. Jaclyn also created a new elective, Civics in Action, that builds up student capacity for creating individual or group action projects that address a policy or community issue. This type of hands on, experiential learning, can take many different forms, including directly addressing community issues with action projects, fostering student participation in different forms of local or state government, and very much aligns with the kind of learning that Betty McKnight championed.
