“The Cycle of Violence (abuse) helps us understand a pattern that can happen in abusive relationships. It often has four stages: tension building, the incident, reconciliation or the ‘honeymoon’ phase, and then a return to tension.” The cycle doesn't always look the same. Sometimes the honeymoon period becomes shorter or disappears completely, and the abuse can become more frequent or severe. A very important message for survivors: “The cycle is not your fault, and you do not cause someone else to abuse you. You cannot control another person's abusive behavior by being nicer, quieter, or doing everything ‘right.’ The responsibility for the abuse belongs to the person choosing to use abuse.”

Family annihilation is when someone chooses to murder multiple family members in close succession, usually a spouse and children.

💜💗 October: A Month of Awareness, Strength & Hope
October reminds us of two important causes: Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
At Advocates Against Domestic Assault (AADA), we recognize the courage it takes to face difficult circumstances, seek help, and take steps toward a safer and healthier future.
Domestic violence can affect every part of a survivor’s life—including their physical, emotional, and overall well-being. Just as we encourage people to care for their health and seek support when facing breast cancer, we also encourage those experiencing domestic violence to reach out, speak up, and know that help is available.
💜 You are not alone.
💗 Your health matters.
💜 Your safety matters.
💗 Your life matters.

This October, let’s raise awareness, break the silence, support survivors, and remind our communities that healing begins with being heard and supported.
