Housing & Community Development Network of NJ The Housing & Community Development Network of NJ is committed to increasing affordable home opportunities for all residents.

The Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey has worked to improve the environment for the work of community development corporations (CDCs), and to strengthen their capacity to create affordable homes and revitalize distressed neighborhoods throughout New Jersey. The Network and its members share a commitment to promoting economic justice and the empowerment of low-income individuals and communities, and encouraging wider participation in the framing and implementation of public policies. The Network supports our CDC members by providing targeted technical assistance and educational programs, pursuing additional resources and improved public policies, and conducting research on ways to enhance the impact and effectiveness of the community development sector.

Record-breaking heatwaves are becoming more common for the Garden State and as a result, efforts to protect residents from the risks of extreme heat are expanding. This session will provide updates on the state's response following the first summer of the New Jersey Code Red Pilot Program, introduce new heat mitigation resources from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, and highlight community-driven initiatives designed to reduce dangerous heat exposure to vulnerable populations. Join us Under One Roof a week from today for a program featuring a wide selection of workshops on a variety of timely topics, including "Mobilizing to Make Change: Tenant Organizing for Housing Justice."

Local housing justice campaigns are often what help shape the Network's statewide policy priorities. With the 2026 launch of the Network's Tenant Leadership Council, this advocacy workshop will review the "soup to nuts" of organizing community campaigns and leveraging that upward pressure to the governor and state legislature. From advancing rent control to ending the criminalization of homelessness, and from advocating for housing diversity to reviving vacant and abandoned properties, this workshop will serve as a primer to identifying and implementing housing justice campaigns and achieving big local wins!
