Traverse Bay Area Central Labor Council We are democratically elected bodies dedicated to represent the interests of working people at the state and local level.

As a Central Labor Body affiliated with the AFL-CIO, the Traverse Bay Area Central Labor Council will join 378 other Central Labor Councils/Area Labor Federations across the United States. We mobilize our members and community partners to advocate for social and economic justice and we strive daily to vanquish oppression and make our communities better for all people—regardless of race, color, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, or ethnic or national origin. It is the local-most labor federation, with Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Missaukee and Wexford counties within its jurisdiction.

Labor Day is more than the unofficial end of summer. It’s a reminder that so much of what working Americans have today was fought for and won by generations of workers who stood together.

Here in Upper and Northern Michigan, that history runs deep. From the mines and mills to our factories, construction sites, schools, hospitals, and public services, union workers have helped build our communities and strengthen the middle class.

The 40-hour workweek. Safer workplaces. Overtime pay. Weekends. Better wages and benefits. These things didn’t happen by accident. Workers organized and fought for them.

This Labor Day, we honor those who came before us, those who keep our communities running today, and the unions that continue fighting for the simple idea that hard work should be enough to build a good life.

Just an FYI, there will be 2 state Supreme court justices at the IBEW Local 498 Union hall Tuesday evening at 4:30. If you have questions please bring them.

Don't forget, there is an impromptu support rally for Callie Barr for Congress tomorrow night, Friday, July 3rd at 5pm to 7pm. It is next door to the Pit Spitters ball field at Chums Corners. We are showing support for her in response to Louisiana Jack Bergman attending the ball game. Let's show up for a couple hours for a brat or dog and give Callie some support, she has been endorsed by several labor unions already as she supports what we stand for. Look for the big Callie for Congress sign on the building directly south of the main entrance to the parking lot at Turtle Creek stadium, it is the build just west of the Hop Dog brew pub on the curve.
