There was a moment I almost convinced myself this wasn't worth it.
Not because I stopped believing mothers deserved better, because building something that doesn't exist is exhausting.
There were days I questioned whether anyone would care about a program that focused on the mother when everyone else was focused on the baby.
Days I wondered if talking about sleep deprivation, identity loss, and postpartum mental health was "too niche."
Then something happened.
A mom told me:
"I thought I was the only one who felt this way."
Another said,
"No one ever explained what was happening to me until now."
Then, our first outcomes came back.
Women didn't just learn information.
They felt less alone.
They understood themselves.
They knew how to ask for help.
They began believing that becoming a mother didn't mean losing themselves.
That's when I realized...
I'm not building a program.
I'm helping build a future where mothers are prepared for the birth of the mother,
not just the birth of the baby.
Every interview.
Every article.
Every difficult conversation.
Every "no."
It's all worth it if one more mom realizes she was never failing. She was simply navigating something no one prepared her for.
That is why I'll keep showing up.
I’m Dr. Nicole Kumi, founder of The Whole Mom, where we focus on preparing mothers for their birth, physically and mentally, alongside their babies theiugh education and connections.
I’d love to connect 🫶🏻
