The Connecticut State Police are mourning the death of Retired State Trooper First Class Nicholas Leary #1370. 💔🐾 TFC Leary passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, from Cancer. He served for more than two decades. During his distinguished career, including at the CT State Police Troop D Danielson he became a highly respected three-time German Shepherd K9 handler, forming bonds and protecting communities in ways few ever experience. Even after retirement, his commitment to service never stopped. He continued working as a K9 handler with the The Mohegan Tribe Police, continuing to protect and serve the public he cared so deeply about. Please keep his family, friends, fellow troopers, and the entire K9 community in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Rest Easy Brother. Prayers for his family of blue and blood. 🇺🇸🚔🐕

He has a lifetime of experience in service as an EMT, a U.S. Army veteran and a police officer. He will bring all of that experience to his new role with the Bristol Fire Department.

LODD - BOSTON, MA: A three alarm fire tore through a triple decker home on Treadway Road in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood Saturday night, quickly spreading through all three floors and prompting a large response from the BFD. During operations, a mayday was called after Rescue 2 firefighter Robert Kilduff Jr., a 24 year veteran and third generation Boston firefighter, fell from the third floor of the burning building. He was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Officials stated crews were able to knock down the heavy fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby homes, while the cause of the fire and circumstances surrounding the fall remain under investigation. Rest in peace, Brother.

Today, Recruit Firefighter Program Class #77 graduated. Over the next week, we will be sharing videos and moments from the ceremony, but tonight we wanted to recognize the people behind the scenes who make this program what it is every single day.

As the Director, Class #77 marked my 10th graduating recruit class. I can say without hesitation that I am proud and grateful to have a front-row seat to watch this team work. They make an incredibly demanding job look easy, and the reality is that it is anything but easy.

The Connecticut Fire Academy Recruit Program runs for 30 weeks each year, but it takes 52 weeks of dedication, preparation, problem-solving, mentorship, leadership, and commitment to make it successful. The long hours, the early mornings, the late nights, the planning, the discipline, the accountability, and the care shown toward every recruit often go unseen by many.

Without the dedication, professionalism, passion, compassion, integrity, and experience of this group, the Recruit Firefighter Program would not be what it is today. They are the brains, the muscle, and the leadership behind every single training day.

A sincere thank you to the Recruit Coordinators:
Ted Borowski
Mark Martin
Joe McElroy
Chip Warner
Chris Fraser
Brian Marino
Cezar Miliwicz

Thank you for what you do for the recruits, the Academy, and ultimately every community across Connecticut that these firefighters will go on to serve.
