Turnout in the June 2 Torrance election is climbing toward 45%, which is historic for Torrance, and most of the vote is already counted. Here is where things stand as of the June 7 county count (nonpartisan, sourced to the county).

🗳️ Mayor: Sharon Kalani has pulled ahead of George Chen, 18,803 to 18,408. It is her first lead since election night. The late ballots have broken her way at every update, and with only a few thousand left to count, the gap is hard to reverse.

Council looks set in all three districts (Kartsonis in D1, Sheikh in D3, Lieu in D5). City treasurer is the only race still close: Aurelio Mattucci leads Mike Griffiths by 602 votes, with Charles Deemer third.

The Torrance mayor's race isn't over, and it's tightening fast. 🗳️
Election night wasn't the final word.

LA County counts mail ballots for weeks and doesn't report Torrance's totals on its own, so we estimated what's left: about 7,600 mayoral votes still to count.

Chen's lead over Kalani has already fallen from 812 votes to 359, and the last three county updates all broke toward Kalani. She's still behind on the board today, but the late ballots keep breaking her way, and she's now favored to overtake him as the rest come in.
