Hey, TVC families and alumni, it's been a while since we've hit your feed so we'll see if this one gets to you. A lot of years have come and gone. The little one in the ball cart is now a high school freshman. If you're in a position to give back to the schools in the Tooele Valley area, please do so. (Yeah, I'm sure some of the alumni are trying to deal with student loans and young families) Stansbury High is doing a donation fundraiser and Tooele is selling cookie dough and jerky. I tried to find out about Grantsville but didn't learn what they're doing, but I'm sure they have something going on. You could message their page on here and probably get info on it.

The game has continued to grow and progress. While we've gotten better, so have most other programs around the state. The speed, strength and skill in the game have grown. Comp and club programs locally have made the tryout process an even tougher job for the coaches. Selection has gotten tough to where passers with a jump serve don't always make the freshmen cut which is different than it used to be.

Stansbury had comp league tryouts this week and I think Grantsville did also. Not sure if they filled their teams or not. Tooele needing more players. (Each school trying to field multiple comp teams)

There's also going to be a rec league, grades 3-8.

So sad to hear this. George was over most of the AAU tournaments the past several years, so, there's a good chance most of our players that did AAU tournaments met him even if they didn't know it.

Grantsville VB is hosting a coaches' clinic coming up in June targeted at players' parents. Get a couple hours of instruction for a few bucks to better understand the game and help your player improve their fundamentals.

In running club for about 10 years, I heard from a lot of parents that said they liked the game, but they didn't know or understand much of everything that was supposed to happen or how to do things. Even those who had played often said the game was completely different than what they had been taught.

Here's a good chance to learn the current methods so you can provide valuable feedback to your player, especially when they're young. No, this doesn't mean coach from the stands, but it helps with bumping and serving in the backyard. Bad habits picked up at young ages are hard to break. It might also be the toe in the water to your getting involved with a club program at the local schools in future years.

Tooele club parents' meeting is Thursday, January 10 at 6pm in room 104 of THS.

Time for club ball to get rolling in the valley. Grantsville is holding a parents' meeting tonight, (Jan 2) and Stansbury is doing one next Monday, Jan 7. Visit the high school team page for each for more info. Haven't seen anything yet from the Tooele program but will update if I hear something.

There's also opportunities for boys to play, so, check with your local program to find out what they're offering.

If you're interested in coaching, contact the local program because it sounds like help is still needed.

If anyone is looking for what should be good volleyball this Friday evening, (and you don't mind being at the U of U) currently 25th ranked Utah takes on #2 Stanford at the Huntsman Center. Stanford was #1 earlier in the year.

Oh, wait, did I forget you can get in FREE?

Two options. You can print the coupon that links here:

Order a junior ball for your elementary school player

Tooele Valley Club Volleyball is organizing an order of junior balls. The final price will depend on quantity but will be between $20 - $22, including the shipping.

Order a Tachikara Volley lite for your under-12 volleyball player. Ball is lighter and softer than regulation balls to help younger players learn the game and is the official size for players until they are 13 and are like the balls they use in Junior Stallions, Junior Buffs and Lasso League.
