Gloria Smith is a member of the Board Directors for the Toledo Lead Resource Center. Her passion and purpose in her role on our board and at the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department helps guide families in our community towards a lead safe future. “No level of lead is safe in a child’s body. No level.” As a Lead Case Manager at the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department, Gloria Smith has seen how quickly lead poisoning can occur and how challenging it is for families.
Every day, she works with families whose children have tested positive for lead, addressing an issue that affects around 3,400 children in Lucas County. Her team of lead investigators identifies the source of lead in homes through interviews and risk assessments.
If you believe your home may have lead, Contact a local lead inspector about testing paint and dust in your home and talk with your child’s doctor about a simple blood lead test. Find a link to local inspectors in the comments.
