Sometimes, when we’re in the thick of life — demands, deadlines and never quite enough time — we forget one of the simplest things: to ask.

I was reminded of that today when a very kind gentleman stopped into the Workshop wanting to make a donation to The Inspired Lumber Project so that more veterans and first responders can have access to Salute to Carpentry and the Workshop beyond it.

So, I’m sharing our donation link here. Not because I want to make a big fundraising pitch, but because there may be others who have thought about helping and simply didn’t know where to go.

Every donation helps us continue opening the doors for the men and women who have served our communities and our country, giving them a place to learn, build, connect and find their way back to something that feels good.

Sometimes, we just have to remember to ask.

Built on Freedom is about more than one event or one raffle.

It’s about celebrating America’s 250th birthday while honoring the journeys of more than 200 veterans and first responders who have been part of the Salute to Carpentry program.

These are men and women who walked into the Workshop, tried something new, worked side by side with others who understand, learned new skills, built with their own hands and became part of a community that continues long after the first six-week class ends.

Today, there are two simple ways to support that mission:

Please join us for Built on Freedom: A backyard BBQ celebrating our Salute to Carpentry’s veterans and first responders as we kick off the excitement of America’s 250th birthday.

Tickets are just $40 each and include a BBQ dinner, soda and water, dessert, dancing, raffles and fun. A cash bar will be available, and the Meat Raffle drawing will take place during the event.

Today, we remember those who never made it home.

Memorial Day carries a weight that words can never fully hold. For the families, friends, battle buddies, and communities left behind, sacrifice is not a history lesson. It is personal. It is lived. It is carried.

At The Inspired Lumber Project, our work is rooted in deep gratitude for those who have served and the understanding that service does not end when the uniform comes off. Through the Salute to Carpentry program, we are honored to walk alongside veterans and first responders as they build skill, connection, confidence, and purpose through the power of working with their hands.

But today, before anything else, we pause.

We honor the fallen.
We remember their names.
We hold their families close.
And we recommit ourselves to building a community worthy of their sacrifice.
